The certificate for the BR 103 (Insider 2017 loco #1) finally arrived in the past week in the US. Now I'm wondering what to do with it.
Is there any point in keeping it and if so, why? Does it add value to the locomotive itself on resale having this? Other than proving single owner, I don't see what value it serves.
Do others wallpaper their train room with these? |

Would not think they would add any value. Some folk like them I suppose as it looks special which is what Insider stuff is about. Any insider loco I have bought just comes from my dealer from orders not taken up etc and saves the subscription. My view is Marklin should make all their models available to all but I presume they make money from the Insider subscription. Having a magazine is a good idea but that would be all. Just my opinion. |
Take care I like Marklin and will defend the worlds greatest model rail manufacturer. |

never had one myself.
Keeping it with the loco for later resale certainly wont lower the value of the loco, so just keep it rolled up in the box perhaps.

The certificate for a loco is larger than the box, so it will not fit flat inside. A certificate for a train set or for a wagon set is OK to stay in the box. I keep loco certificates rolled in a tube from whence they can be flattened anytime. Kimball |

I keep mine because I think it is a fun addition to owning an insider loco. Märkiln took the time to print it and send it, so why not. If you like them, keep them. If you want to frame them and hang them on the wall, do so. Don't let anybody tell you that is wrong. If somebody wants to burn them, I hope they enjoy doing so. Collecting stuff is all about what it does for YOU. I guy I once knew had two Insider subscriptions, one for reading and using, the other one for storing all Insider communcation in prestine condition. Whatever makes your day. Unfortunately, he is not around anymore, but I can tell you that when his collection went on sale, the much work put into storing Märklin Insider communcation did not pay off (nor would I ever have expected it to). The point is, he enjoyed doing what he did, and that is worth more than anything.

I just keep mine in the packaging with the loco although I don't think it has a lot of value, so I don't worry about keeping it pristine. Of course I can't do anything with the one for my 103 because they never sent me one, which saves me the effort of deciding what to do with it. |
Regards,
Jim
I have almost all Märklin and mostly HO, although I do have a small number of Z gauge trains!
So many trains and so little time. |

I have a couple of files for my train stuff. Peter 1. General Maerklin correspondence and certificates. 2. Inventory 3. Current layout track plans printed from Wintrak software. 4. Dealer receipts going back to 1990. (yeah, I don't know why I kept them but I do).

Making Insider models available for everyone is no good idea for Märklin. Most of the insiders, at least a certain part of them, will order a model. This is a good bank for Märklin. As long as people think this is the one and only chance to get the model they will order it. Sure most of you know this already. |

I don't mind Marklin making some Insider specials, but they should also produce at least one version of each loco for general sale to everyone.
By all means make the Insider one special in some way, but it shouldn't be the only available model of that type of loco or wagon.
Over the years I have accumulated a few Insider models, mainly from eBay. I think they are very desirable, but they don't make the subscription good value in themselves, in my opinion.

I've seen the certificates on eBay listed at absolute ridiculous prices and people bid on them. Not sure why you would want one with someone else's name on it.
