Hi,
While adding a interior lighting kit to a Santa Fe 43601 car I managed to break the current conducting coupler pocket assembly.
This is not the 72021 coupler but the female NEM pocket assembly on the car side of that interface.
Are they sold separately versus having to buy another car?

Thank-you in advance.

Ron

There are kits for adding conducting coupler pockets to coaches that don't have them. That may provide you with the required parts. Look in the full catalogue on the pages that have the conducting couplers and other accessory parts to find a part number.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply!!

The rub here is that this coach already had the conducting coupler NEM pockets installed as part of the original car assembly.

Now the coach has no coupler pocket at all, let alone a current conducting one.

I need to replace that original car coupler pocket assembly.

I have a picture of the part but can't figure out how to post the JPG pic.

Ron,

A couple of years ago a kind person on this forum found the part number for me, which is E579120. I broke that same part on one the coaches for my California Zephyr. Those leading E number parts have to be ordered through Walthers or a dealer in the US or from a dealer in Europe via eBay. Either way it takes some time but they are still thankfully available. BigGrin

I got mine from AJCKids in Texas. They did not have them in stock but they ordered them for me and I got several two packs so I will be ready the next time I break one of those. You can usually figure out the part number by searching for the model on the Märklin website, where they usually list parts diagrams and the part numbers. Cool
Regards,
Jim

I have almost all Märklin and mostly HO, although I do have a small number of Z gauge trains!
So many trains and so little time.

Oh, one more thing. All that part gets you is the plastic pocket. You will still need the spring and the copper conductive insert, which hopefully you still have from your broken one.

Jim

Hi Jim,
Thanks for that Great info!!!
I have been working with Belle and Guy at AJCKids and I believe they have ordered that part. I can now confirm it by part number! Thanks!
I do have the spring and conductive insert.
Thanks again for your help!
Ron

Your looking for the "Deichsel" for your particular car.
Question, is there any difference current conducting or not? Its just the NEM pocket positioned in the right place, with the other end attaching to the car/loco in question appropriately.
I thought the current conducting bit is a wire from the conducting coupler itself that runs around this NEM 'receiver' part entirely.

Hi,
You could probably rig up a conducting wire as you describe. However you would not be able to uncouple that car without some work. Marklin has solved that with the current conducting conductor. Part number 72021 would be able to retrofit your car.

I was mistaken on where the wire gets soldered on... so nevermind.

Ron just needs this one very fragile plastic part to restore his coach's CC system to functionality:

CouplerPocket.jpg

I believe that this part is specific to the Budd passenger coaches which Märklin has used for all of its American coaches.

I checked the Märklin database and they don't list this part, so you can't determine what part you need that way. I have worked with Belle and Guy at AJCKids to find other obscure parts and they have always come through for me. Cool
