I wonder when that was filmed, I didn't think the Challengers would have been in revenue service with double stack container cars.

Filmed in 1991, Its actually in the title of the post - UP Challenger #3985 + 143 Freight Cars - 1991

I love it.

I hope this do the same thing when the Big Boy 4014 restoration is complete - just let it out occasionally to do the job it was designed for. The power is just incredible.

Yes I agree but the problem is all the diesel crews don't know how to drive steam (in the main) Don't understand the power it has and the relationship between the loco and the fireman to the engineer . All they do is sit in a air con cab and push buttons.

Also they are saying steam has reliability issues, hang on the restored units don't have issues thay have been restored ?

Steam ruled for over a hundred years, hauled weights and stuff that no single diesel can up places like Sherman Hill, Donner Pass

I sure don't need any convincing BigGrin - I just mean that they could get the specialist steam crew to occasionally haul a real freight train.

My avatar photo is me standing next to 4014 in Pomona - and for scale, I am 6'7" (2.0m) tall!
