I thought it might be useful to share this photo from 1956.

A few things stand out.

1. Maerklin made this as an Insider model #39050 in 2007.
2. The engine is hauling the then new 26.4 metre passenger rolling stock.
3. Note in the background how many flat-roofed covered goods wagons are still in use on the railways at this time.
4. The photo is taken from within the framework of the famous overhead railway in Wuppertal.

I acknowledge the input of David Ingram Seal from the Railways of Germany forum.

Hi Kimball,

Exactly the photo was taken at Wuppertal Oberbarmen. The signal-tower, the train has just passed, was named "Rittershausen West". A picture from the other direction (and 20 years later) can be found here: https://posten17.de/sond...rtal-oberbarmen-07-1973/

Regards

Markus

Nice find!

5. There is a semi-dining coach in the middle of the train.
6. The loco is a bit longer than each of the coaches it hauls.

I have three blue F train coaches from Piko, including a semi-dining coach.
Now I know I have another suitable loco to haul that train.
Regards
Tom

Back in '51 one of its siblings (BR05 002) pulled the 'Dompfeil' f-train which had the half dining coach, which is what I run behind mine. Lilliput items L384211, L384411, L384511.

One can already tell from the year 1951 that these are different coaches than those on the picture (shorter pre-war coaches).
In this case the loco is much longer than the coaches.

Those F trains of the '50s were short and there were many types of coaches, so you can have several trains of different types.
