I decided to integrate my lighting control with my layout control software and am happy with the results...

This is really nice! I have thought about that a lot as I also have changed all my lights in the train room to smart lights. How do you do the connection between the train steering and the hue software? What software? Any hardware?

Really nice!

Very cool. What is your "software" exactly? Is it a commercial package or something you wrote yourself to be able to talk to the Hue hub?

thanks for the feedback, and to answer the questions...

yes it is my own self written layout control software.

The Hue bridge (from Philips Hue) has a JSON interface accessible over HTTP that allows applications to fetch data, and set lights etc.

My software is rather sophisticated. It controls all the trains, monitors s88, does the accelerations, functions lights, track speed limits, spoken real-time dynamic departure and arrival announcements (In German or English), RemoteSign arrival and departure boards, sound effects, accessory lighting, prototypical signaling, etc. Oh, it also contains a web server so that one can control the layout from a mobile device via a web browser.

Wow! I’ve been thinking of using the ”Albedo” PC software for this purpose (have a look from 3:00 min in this clip):

However, integrating the functionality into the train control software is ofcourse even more powerful! Would it be possible to ”call” hue functions e.g. from withon TrainController? Or do we have to kindly ask Mr. Freiwald to add a new feature?

Some (other than Dale, I'll let them tell you who) has lights in the train room that dim for night time. Blinds come down on the windows and the lights fade to a deep blue without totally fading out.

I don't know if this is done under the control of Train Controller (that I know he uses to control his layout) or if it is controlled seperately.

There are also periodic thunderstorm noises.

Having said all that I know the JMRI softaw has code to control lights using at least two methods, one of them being DMX512.

Very nice Dale ThumpUp ThumpUp

The sunrise picture looks great.

As mentioned by KiwiAlan in an earlier post, here is alternate solution;

It reminds me of one of the most beautiful attractions in Niagara Falls that talked about the birth of the falls today. Truly suoerbe this sadness... and the environment of this layout, certainly one of the most beautiful that I have seen
