Is creating a reversing loop with 3-rail M track as simple as bringing the track off of a straight section, into a circle, and then joining it back to the straight section with a right or left switch? I am not familiar with AC track, only DC track. Thanks.

One of the advantages of 3 rail track, you don't have to worry about causing power shorts when using reverse loops.

THANKS to Dale Schultz and BigDaddyNZ for their responses. I was hoping it would be straight forward.
I am also considering ways to create electrically isolated sidings, etc.. From what I have read, one way is to put HO insulated plastic rail joiners on the two outside rails and cover the bottom center metal clip with heavy paper as a way to insulate the center rail. I am using the 3600 type 3-rail M track which I have been able to buy on Ebay in abundance at reasonable prices.

NO No No Its not straight forward , its very curvy or you wont have a reversing loop .

Don't bother with the rail joiners. Just use a bit of paper on the center clip. That's all you need to do.

Just use heavy paper on the contact tabs for the center rail. |

Only have to isolate the centre rail or studs . No need for the running rails to be isolated anywhere .
