Greetings,

First post!!!

I have a Roco 63699 locomotive that has been running perfectly...until today.

It stopped on the track and it had its lights on and I could change the light direction from white to red but it would not move.

I took the shell off of it and put it on the track and moved the motor flywheel with my finger and it moved slowly. I cleaned the track and all contacts and that did not fix it.

I then removed the can motor and it appears that some black mess was on the bottom of the motor and I assume that is the carbon brush material.

So the question is...can I simply replace the brushes (it does not look like that is an easy task) or do I need to buy a new can motor?

THANKS!!!

You can change the brushes and it's not that hard.
Done it a thousand times...
You'll have however to clean the commutator in light of the presence of that "black mess" you mentionned.
It's time to go to bed here in France, but tomorrow I'll try to get you the specifics and a couple of "how to" pics
Cheers

Did you buy it second hand ? I've got many Roco locos and never had this problem with any of them.

I bought the locomotive new about 15 years ago. It is a very reliable locomotive and I have been very happy.

I did figure out how to remove the can motor and the brushes and they are indeed worn. The black residue was the carbon dust and some grease.

Now I need to figure out where to by the replacement brushes. Hopefully here in the US.

Does anyone know the part number of the replacement brushes.

Thank you for your help
