Dear all
I have quite a few Marklin Hamo locomotives (83* series) that need repair. The owner has bought a lot of Fleishmann profi track to run them on. The profi track is code 83 and the Hamo is designed to run on older code 100 and so the locos hit the track chairs. I have looked up Marklin service, there are no diagrams for any of the locos I have. I thought the wheels may have been still available and could be changed to a later Marklin part having the later wheel profiles. Has anyone come across this repair request before.
Personally I think it would be better to change the track to Peco setrack code 100 or streamline 100. There are 11 Hamo locos and seems a pity to change the wheels anyway. They are all 40 years old and classic boxed Marklin Hamo and would like to treat as such.
Any suggestions would be most welcome.
Regards Bryan

Hi Bryan,
Trix C track (2 rail version of Maerklin C track) is also code 83. Now all my older Maerklin work on C track, so maybe Hamo will work on C track. Try some.

I do not assume that Hamo locos will work with Trix C track (code 83), but at least it is worth a try. There are model tracks with smaller track chairs to avoid this issue while others are rather made to scale. So if it fails on code 83 from one company, it may work on code 83 from another company - or vice versa. |

I have tried a Hamo Swiss Croc and Ae6/6 on Roco Geoline which is Code 83 and both locos ride up on the Point frog and while the Croc does not seem to hit the chairs or sleepers the Ae6/6 does. Hope this helps , Colin.

Dear All Thank you all for replying. I will have a good look at the Trix C track, seems the right way to go. The Marklin C track is backwards compatible for old Marklin, so the Trix should be the same. Regards Bryan

I ran HAMO SBB Re460 locomotives on RocoLine track (Code 83) and through RocoLine switches without problems. (I've heard that Roco is reintroducing new production of RocoLine with roadbed this fall!!!) |
