Very nice, Ak! Thanks for sharing.
Now all we need is for those steam locos to be restored to use as well!
I see from the website that they do run a steam loco, so I might try to visit this winter. It's only about 4 hours from me by car.

Hi Ak , Would you believe that when I was at the Rio Tinto in Spain (2010) I did not take any images !! As you point out the name has certain Australian context. But more of Iberian railways : Familiar shape ? Regards, PJ

Not forgetting that Gibraltar is also part of the Iberian Peninsular, I would like to inform forum members that there was once a railway in Gibraltar. The railway was metre gauge and originated in the construction of the naval dockyard around 1900, but remained in use until the 1970s both within the dockyard and around other areas, transporting mainly goods and supplies to and from ships around the harbour. At it's peak the railway extended almost all around the rock, with a long tunnel joining the East and West sides, allowing a circular route to be followed several kilometres in length. Recently a dilapidated old railway wagon was found abandoned in one of the many long disused tunnels, and the local Heritage Society had it restored. It is now on display as a reminder of the old railway system. |

Matt Era 3 DB lokos, coaches and freight cars from across Europe But I do have the obligatory (six) SBB Krocs ECoS 50200, all FX and MFX decoders replaced with ESU V4s, operated in DCC-RailCom+ with ABC brake control. With the exception of the passenger wagens with Marklin current conducting couplers, all close couplers have been replaced with Roco 40397. |

The first time was OK, though I found his prices a bit high. I walked out of the shop with a nice 34561 green E60 (since converted to full digital) The second visit, however, was far from pleasant. After I asked for the price on a 3722 E94 he had on display he quoted a ridiculous figure, and then went on to tell me he would not sell me anything anyway and to get out of his shop! I was so shocked I just left the shop, trying to figure out if I'd said something he might have found offensive, but I'm sure I was perfectly polite. When I commented on this on the forum others said they had heard of similar experiences when the proprietor "didn't like the look of you"! How were you served? |

How were you served? Well, forum member 5HorizonsRR knew the owner and conversed with him, while I was browsing without being addressed. Since 5HorizonsRR was knowledgeable, I did not talk to the owner. And remembering your experience, I did not feel compelled to do so. However, it was nice to inspect the treasure chest, and I am glad that 5HorizonsRR took me to the shop. ;o) |

"Aldeia Típica José Franco": On the outskirts of the town of Mafra near Lisbon in Portugal, sculptor José Franco has created an enchanting miniature, vaguely surreal craft village of windmills, watermills and traditional shops. In the basement of one of the buildings, an operating G scale layout with some animated features is to be found. |

After this deviation: Back to the prototype. When driving on the highway, I followed the upper stretch of Linha da Beira Baixa in Portugal - currently closed as it is undergoing renovation works - which is clad to a mountain side and is bridging the odd ravine from time to time. As I was steering my car, I could not take pictures. Therefore I attach images which are courtesy of Wikipedia. And one found on Panoramio. |

Recently witnessed by your correspondent on the former DRG&W (now UP) mainline in Utah: At Helper a downhill eastbound BNSF manifest (seven locos pulling and one braking at the rear) met an uphill westbound UP coal drag (two locos pulling, one helping in the middle and two pushing from behind). The situation at the east end of the long Helper siding: The BNSF train continued its trip, while the UP train awaited further motive power to make it up to Soldier Summit. After some time four extra UP locos - running "light" - descended from Soldier Summit and were cut into the middle of the coal train. Subsequently, a total of nine locos made the coal train move uphill - here seen at Castle Gate: [YOUTUBE]https://youtu.be/sMnuVsexMcs[\YOUTUBE] Edited by user 20 August 2017 16:38:28(UTC)

Travelling along the coast of Maine, I stumbled over a turntable cum wedged engine house in the ferry port of Rockland: https://en.m.wikipedia.o...rntable_and_Engine_HouseThen, I was flabbergasted to learn that there existed a (seasonal) FL9-hauled streamliner passenger service until 2015, connecting with Amtrak in Brunswick. Fascinating 2015 video (I love the sound of the horn) of the Mid-Coast Limited operated by the former Maine Eastern RR, which I found on YouTube: [YOUTUBE]https://youtu.be/iTTelT4aGnU[\YOUTUBE] Rockland turntable operation shown at the end of this video:[YOUTUBE]https://youtu.be/wQH5wmRcgXc[\YOUTUBE] Edited by user 26 August 2017 19:02:01(UTC)
