Hi,
I am having quite a problem here with my locomotives, as when I power up my MS2 and try to run my locos, they can move for about 1 cm and then stop. They are able to move a little bit if I move them back to the same location, and take them off the track (when the power is off) and reset them, so to speak. I have tried switching out controllers and transformer boxes. (if that's what they're called) The only modification I have made to both of the locos is installing a Seuthe smoke unit in each of them, but I did not turn on the smoke function when I tried to run them.
Thanks for any technical help,
Matthew

I agree with Adrian, this is a classic symptom of dirty track and/or wheels.

Give the tracks a good wipe with a clean rag soaked in alcohol or similar solvent. Do a section about a metre long and see if your locos run well on that section.

Small C track layout, control by MS2, 100+ trains but run 4-5 at a time.

I had this issue with my starter set when I first got it, it was a set from 2012 that I bought in 2016, so it sat quite while in a warehouse. I took my LGB track polishing block and cleaned both the outer running rails and the tops of the center studs. No more issues after that. Regular running helps keep this issue at bay. If I let my layout sit several weeks, I have the same issue in a few places on the track from dust and such on the track. A quick clean up restores operation again. Mike

The problem with the centre rail is rust, not dust. Running trains frequently will keep the rust off.

Agreed. I am building a layout at the moment with track pieces that have been stored for years. I'm finding that even if they appear "new", most of the centre studs need a little attention in order to get the trains running properly. And after that, frequent runs are required - another good reason to spend more time at the layout ("sorry darling, got to do some essential maintenance") BigGrin

When was the last time you ran the trains without this problem?

Did you try giving either loco a gentle nudge forward?

Do ALL locos you have exhibit this problem?

Answers to these questions may add additional facts to solve the problem if cleaning the tracks does not.

Have a good Sunday, everyone. BigGrin
