Happy hunting!
Please take into account some extrta luggage for your flight back.
Note ATM money machines are located in the hallway outside the exibition halls.
In the frontsection of the halls are the people selling new items, thence there is a middle section with layouts, and in the back there is a huge market with secondhand items, almost everything of Marklin you ever dreamed of will be there.

I trust that the traders do not conform to George Canning's scurrilous view of the Dutch expressed in his cable to the UK ambassador in the Netherlands in 1826 when Canning was UK Foreign Secretary.

In matters of commerce the fault of the Dutch
Is offering too little and asking too much;
With equal protection the French are content
So we'll lay on Dutch bottoms just twenty percent.

I imagine the dispute was over differential tariffs laid on foreign bottoms or ships in international commerce. I couldn't see the present incumbent of the British Foreign Office, Bo-Jo, coming up with such a witty zinger.

I hope to go up to Utrecht for a day. I hear it is a great show.

Help please!!
Alas, I will not makeEurospoor this year.

I want to make it next year. I have to pick my holidays next week for 2018.
Usually Eurospoor is last week of October or first of November.

Does anyone know the dates for 2018?

Not sure but I think this year - the 25th edition - is the last time for Eurospoor.
For years the number of visitors is falling, last year 15,000 visitors, in 2015 15,600 ... back in the day the show had 32,000 visitors.
Financially it is becoming harder to organise the event.
So my guess is after 25 years Leo calls it quits.

I went through the old Eurospoor newsletters.
For years Leo is particularly (very) unhappy that the big mrr names & manufacturers don’t want to attend Eurospoor, except Piko
My guess is that this is also a reason to call it quits after 25 years, but this is purely my speculation

I am a bit more positive about the future of Eurospoor.
The economic tide in Europe is shifting to a more positive outlook which means people are buying luxury stuff again which will help events like Eurospoor.
Perhaps it can be run more economically by not having to hire the huge halls of the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht,be it that Utrecht with its trainstation in the centre of the country is placed very conveniently for visitors.
For me,a second best is the fair at the Euretco halls at Houten, pretty close to Utrecht,a lot of used Marklin stuff there but hardly any layouts.

The agenda for Houten as known now,in Dutch only:

I was able to make it to Eurospoor for a couple of hours today as I happened to be in Holland for business. What a wonderful show! Lots of layouts and vendors. Artitec, Piko, Roco, & others were also on hand with factory displays.

Unfortunately 25 is a nice round number, and you know that convention center where it's held isn't going to get any cheaper as they finish that whole station precinct, so I'm inclined to think this might be the final one, but here's hoping it's not. Either way, it wont derail (pun intended) our cheese shopping!

They are giving away free calendars for 2018, with the dates for next year’s Eurospoor already marked. So I assume that’s good news for another show.

Hi Nigel!

That was what I went by last year as to whether it was going to be held this year or not, and that seemed to have panned out. Just out of interest (and for planning purposes), what are the dates they marked off?

Yes, of course I should have included that important piece of information!

It’s in November again, the 9-10-11 of November 2018.

I wonder when the Köln Messe will be, and whether we can combine the two in one visit to Europe . . .

Hmm, might be able too, Koln is late November, typically just as the Christmas markets are starting. Found it, it is the following weekend i.e. 15, 16, 17, 18 Nov 2018. On the link I provided keep selecting the month under the map 'till you get to November 2018.

So that will also make it viable for soem of our Southern Members to think about coming.

HHHmmmmmmm , This looks like a very good idea . I'll have to start to try bending the FD's elbow to release the family fortune . Is there a website that would give dates for other messe's in Europe ,I was informed by PECO many years ago that most show's were only arranged a few months before the due date but surely locking in dates for Hall space would have to happen many many months before hand . The only drawback with next year would be no IMF at Marklin as it only happens every second year , I wasn't all that impressed with what was on sale from vendors when we attended in 2015 as I found more variety & better prices at Eurospoor so maybe to keep the war department at bay I should arrange for tickets to a Andre Rieu concert if this comes off ok.

Cheers Tom in Oz .

Well the show at Cologne is also an IMA, it alternates between Cologne and Goppingen, it used to alternate between Cologne and Munich.

Other shows happening around the same time, well there is the 'big' UK show at the NEC in Birmingham, but I don't know the 2018 date. It is late November this year, so I suspect it will likely be the similar wekkend next year.

I haven't checked other shows in Germany, but the Marklin pages do have a list of shows they attend. I know there is a bunch late October/early November, but don't recall any later than the Cologne show.

But the Christmas Markets will be starting around then, and there is something like 4 individual markets in Cologne, one of them is in the plaza around the Dom, and another within walking distance. We also enjoy the one in Esslingen, but that involves relocating as it is too far to comfortably do as a day trip, although I can't remember if it opens that early.

Right, shipment from Lokshop just arrived with the Insider 05 package, which contains a leaflet for Modell+Technik Messe Stuttgart. 23-26 November 2017. The website doesn't seem to list 2018 dates yet, but this years date suggests it could be the weekend after Cologne.

Just booked a room at the NH Utrecht by the train station.BigGrin It is a pay at the hotel deal and costs a bit more. I'm not sure I'll go and it depends on the airfares. I'll probably spend two days checking the vendors.

My question is do the vendors add VAT to the shown price?

VAT is an important point for us foreigners in Europe. On buying a newer item at a swap meet, it’s important to get a good price, because your German dealer will discount 19% if he ships it to the US.

I just saw that Delta Airlines dropped its airfare from Seattle to Amsterdam by close to 40% today. I didn't check other cities so it could be system-wide or limited to certain markets. You can get a better deal with expedia.com by booking an airfare+hotel package.

I showed that to my FD and she said OK.BigGrin BigGrin BigGrin So I'm going to Utrecht this November. I hope to see some of you there.

I've already got my flight booked - I'm lucky since I travel so much with work I have plenty of frequent flyer points... so this pleases the Mrs!

I think I'll start, for the interests of clarity, a new thread concerning Eurospoor 2018. I think using this thread with 2017 might get a tad confusing!
