I recently got hold of this model with a Uhlenbrock decoder - apart from the lights coming on I couldn't get the train to move.

The train wouldn't go into programming mode by me holding the direction switch button down for 8 seconds - I also have no idea on how to follow the rest of the manual with my MS2 so I want to replace the decoder with a new one.

Is there any reason why a new ESU decoder wouldn't work with this old Brawa model?

Many thanks gents

Sounds like an Uhlenbrock decoder. Does it support DCC?
With an MS2 you can enter programming mode by quickly hitting the direction switch for about 8 seconds. But DCC would be more comfortable.

A new decoder would be an option.

I have one of those. Had the same issue as you when I bought it second hand. It's now replaced with an ESU Loksound V4 decoder. Works like a charm!

Thanks Tom and Dennis.

Do you know if a lokpilot would allow me to increase the brightness of the headlights? If not, what are the ways to accomplish this?

Hey! Have you been down my basement and stolen my Talent? :) Mine had that issue as well... As well as only travelling very slow. The Talent has been by far the most "unlucky" model I bought so I thought about either selling it cheap on Ebay to someone that could fix it or to send it to Brawa for service. I chose to send it to Brawa. They fixed it in a couple of weeks and they fixed the motor and the light. No idea how unfortunately.

Yes you can increase the brightness of the headlight by follow CV adress.
Decoder is however already stand for maximum brightness when you buy it.
I did tested by reduce brightness in my locomotive but i decides to keep on same brightness.

Just to report back that a 26,50 euro Lokpilot v4.0 did the job. It was a straight pull out and swap job with no soldering required. With the tiniest dab of grease now the train is running flawlessly!

Thanks everyone for your help.

If someone wants a free Brawa/Uhlenbrock decoder, PM me.
