Goodmorning everyone, I have my eye on a S 870 thats for sale and I just wondered if anyone on the Forum has one and are there any issues with them.Am I right in thinking that they are all metal including the wheels. Are they hard to find in good condition and is there anything to watch out for. Many thanks, Eddie Confused

Hi Eddie,

The S870 is all plastic, including the wheels, just except for the clockwork. The wheels like to break, also the body is not as unbreakable as the catalogue writes. The silver painting is usually chipped, a loco without chips is restored in most cases. The clockwork is durable but in many cases the key is missing or replaced. The original key is made of die-cast an has a MÄRKLIN-sign on it.

Regards

Markus

yes I have one. Things to watch for are exactly what our friend Markus said.
The good news about the cracked wheels: Ritter makes replacement for both types on the loco and the tender axle.

Hi Malin,

Just one addition. If you think about a complete set S873/2 be aware that the silver tipping car is counterfeit frequently. Original cars are made of black plastic. So only cars with some scratches in the silver painting can be verified to be original and not to be only resprayed 362.

One last bit on that S870. I had wanted to bid on it but the auction finished at 2.30 in the morning and I fell asleep. Dont know if there was a reserve price but it got 13 bids up to 144 euro . Eddie

Hi Paul,

I think Eddie was looking at this auction: http://www.ebay.de/itm/V...p;_trksid=p2047675.l2557

Adding onto what Markus said, the silver 362 was also available in early versions of set CM805/3 (with ST800 box lid). They can also be found with green plastic under the paint and stub axles. (Stummelachsen)

Yes Peter ,that was the auction all right. Thanks for the offer Paul to keep an eye out for a S870 for me but its not that I want one especially . I was just looking at ebay and came across it and it looked like it might go for a good price. There are lots more I would go for first but my heart is bigger than my bank balance. Anyway I have a nice HR800 comin this week. EddieCool
