have had another order for converting locos to digital and mainly adding a sound decoder to these locos.

there are 6 locos from one and 1 loco from another friend.

1 loco is a Märklin steam loco (BR 94) (37160) this loco has had an sound decoder installed and now he wants me to add 2 electrical couplings.

the other six and 1 more (BR 85) is on its way from Hong Kong;

1 x ICE with 2 motors (3371)
1 x BR 18
1 x SBB Re 460
1 x 3611
1 x ÖBB 1020

ICE: ESU sound decoder, 2 loud speakers, 2 cab lights and Led interior lights, new circuit boards

BR 18: ESU sound decoder, led's front and rear

SBB Re 460: ESU sound decoder, 5 pole motor with ball bearings, 2 cab lights, Swiss light change: 3 white front 1 white rear, 1 red rear, 2 red rear. made the led circuit board myself.

I'm contemplating of installing micro leds to simulate sparks on the pantograph. (?)

3611 C class : ESU sound decoder, replaced one led (did not work)

ÖBB BR 1020: ESU sound decoder, 5 pole motor with ball bearings, new light circuit board (3 white front and 2 red rear), cab light and may install brake sparks (?)

here are some pictures from a conversion: SBB Re 460

this pictures shows, 2 locos = 1 from Märklin and the other from Roco. if you would take the weight of the Roco loco frame and the housing from the Märklin loco you would have a total weight of 758g, hypothetically Märklin could increase the weight of the frame to gain this extra weight.
at the moment the Roco loco weighs 532g and the Märklin loco 591g and yes the Roco loco has a better pulling power than the Märklin loco because both bogies are powered and each provide 2 rubber tyres.

here is the second loco: ÖBB Rh 1020: a new circuit board has been made for the front & marker lights (led's)

a more delicate and difficult task, I've added a resistor to the ICE interior light + a led and this is done on both sides x 3 carriages.,

this is about it and the complete conversion is almost finished.

all my Roco Re460 WS have only one powered bogie with 4 rubber tyres. Did you add traction on the other bogie ?

My scale gives 512 g for Roco, 545 for Hag and 590 for Marklin Re460s, but the Roco Re460 is unable to climb a steep slope pulling a heavy consist of IC2000 coaches, while the Hag one does it easily.
I wonder why, the two engines are mechanically similar. Different rubber tyres ?

Regards

you are correct when we talk about WS locos from Roco, all my Roco locos are DC and I use the pantograph to power my locos, some I've bought as AC and there are only 2 axles powered and the pulling power is somewhat dismal against his counter part loco in DC

rubber tyres could result in a different outcome, but as mentioned the xtra weight could also make the difference. (512g = 545g), I also noticed with HAG locos the wheel seem to be wider so there could be be more traction.

regards.,

John

John-your work on the ICE 3371 is especially impressive. I upgraded mine a few years ago, but I used this kit:

https://www.digital-bahn.de/bau_fzg/ice.htm

I did not go to the effort that you did to convert the lighting to LED's. I did change the bulbs with 'digital' ones.

Great Job!

I bought this as well but than I found out there was something with the circuit board I couldn't activate independently so I've changed the whole setup including 2 speakers, 1 sound decoder, 1 lokpilot for the light change.
