My Trix Proficlub package for 1/07 arrived yesterday (Wednesday). All the expected items including order form for Proficlub wagon.

But reading through the marklin Magazine there is a 1/3 page item on the 21st International Model Construction days by Gangelt Model Railroad Enthusiasts. This mentions a Scottish Marklin layout attending, and I don't recall any mention of that on here, so there is clearly a potential member in Scotland we don't know about. It is a decent size do at Gangelt, the article talks about 3000 sq. meters (32,292 sq. ft).

Big white envelope in the mailbox today, containing Marklin Magazine 01/2017, Insider Magazine 01/2017 and an English Marklin 2017 New Items catalog.

MM articles on the new Class 42 loco, another CS3 article, an article on the Minitrix TEE models, an article on this year's Insider models, an article on the mSD3 decoders, plus all the usual news and layout articles.

The arrival of 01/17 occurred on 28/ 02/17 . All alive & kicking but later than some Ozzy members , makes me wonder where they get to considering the white envelopes would all have arrived in Oz on the same plane flight from Germany . Now for a good read & ponder what I may be allowed to buy .

Cheers Tom in OZ

Both my Marklin and Trix Insider magazines arrived yesterday.

Includes brochure for Marklin 00720 12 tank car set and 24206 Trix tank Car set. 12 cars in the Marklin set and 6 different ones in the Trix set, so if you buy both sets you end up with 18 different tankers, 3 takers in each paint scheme. Back page includes 39851 Class 152 mfx+ loco to go with them.

Brochure for Br42 also included.

And finally, but definitely not last, a brochure for the new 764xx series colour light signals which seem to come in more variations than you can count (well 10 of them actually), along with a diagram of how they would be placed around a multiple platform through station. At the back of the brochure are the 70xxx series semaphore signals with matching distant and yard signals, again with a placement diagram.

The Marklin magazine accompanying these also has part 1 of a series of articles on the new signals.

At risk of being labelled "boring old fart" as I raised this issue in relation to the Summer 2017 New items leaflet what is "new" in the Marklin signal range ? The ten variants of 764xx have all been continuously in the product line since 2013/14 as have the 70xxx Now I personally find them excruciatingly expense and obviously you are not limited to Marklin and others have the same kind of products that are available so it may be that with a considerable development cost to recover M are struggling - they could always reduce the price to sell some more or as before am I missing the point?

I expect the cost (80€) beyond the brand name markup, are related to:

  • that each signal has its mfx decoder built into the signal (so you get a decoder with each signal),
  • the simplified design that requires little wiring is something Märklin feels gets a premium price (eg to slave the distance signal to the main signal as well as connecting the main signal to the track)
  • the integrated track power control capability to enforce stops at red, which can simplify/speed up deployment and installation.

Makes it easy for someone not wanting to deal with a lot of the wiring and separate decoder setup, especially for the carpet-bahner, to get signals deployed.

For those of us that do our own wiring and want to drive them will separate multi-signal decoders such as an m83, tracking the signal addressing info, and explicitly wire up any stop segments and other connectivity, buying cheaper 14€ makes a lot of sense.. especially when deploying a LOT of signals.

Now are the added things worth the 66€ added on? If your running on carpet and only installing a very few signals then maybe yes.

But I completely agree, what is new about these things that wasn't' there in 2016 that justifies them being listed in the new items catalog?

I might not be a true Märklin collector, but I do not understand why this is even a discussion. It is just ONE page in the catalogue, that lets the reader know "Hey take a look at our signals". I don't get why this upsets so many of you.

It is just an ad for the signal system. You all seem to know that it is just an ad, so why does it matter?

No good.. It arrived today.. Oh well, at least it got here.. RollEyes

We need to flush out that NZ spy in Marklin..

Okay, here is the plan.. Can anyone going to the Modellbahn Treiff in September, please go around to all the Marklin people and get them to say, "Fish and Chips".. If it comes out like, "Fush and chups" then take a photo of the spy and post it on the forum... Once we have the spy and a name, then we have a good case for Marklin to delay the shipment of East Island-addressed Insider packages by two weeks.. This way, those East Islanders will get their packages at the same time as the rest of us..

"Sounds like a cunning plan", says I. LOL

Of course, any Easter Islanders or ex-pats are exempt from carrying out said cunning plan, nobody likes a snitch.. Laugh

Well, of course it works the other way as well. If the said spy says "Feesh and Cheeps" and "Seex" instead of six we will know that the said spy is a West Islander, and also a pretty incompetent spy if they are getting the Insider packs to NZ first. We'll keep him/her on....

Hello David,

The same "POETS" term is used in Australia on Froidy.
Except the P and O stand for different words than in NZ !!

Six per year..

The arrival date is a bit random for anyone outside Europe and NZ Cursing.. Work your way through these posts to see the time of year each issue has been arriving - I think that North America takes even longer than us..
