This reminds me, whe I was very young, I had a train Payá, (AC as märklin) and I had a electric loco like marklin 3012, but the lights were always turn on, and I didn't knew how to fix that, then one day reading a spanish comic, I found a drawing explaining the electrical connections of a marklin loco, then I was be able to change the wiring of my loco and get the lights changing with direction of travel. It was like a miracle.

If you look closer at the center picture in the first post. It seems to me like the cartonist has not only taken the lokomotiv from märklin but also the railroadcrosing and the cantenary mast from märklin as motiv.  a picture of the crosing just as and exampel. |

Since as mention the tunnel looks like märklin tin plate tunnel with catalog number 452, but also the railway crossing with signal has a märklin model number 455. |

It is no secret that some artists use other drawings as inspiration for their renderings, but as both the Maerklin models, the catalog images and the drawings (comics) depicted all show the same prototype, it is natural that there would be some similarities. The drawing that shows what appears to be a Maerklin box or Maerklin transformer or the freight car with the Maerklin cover are very clear to be drawings of Maerklin trains. As far as the rest, some of it may be simple coincidence.
I do not know if freight cars used lanterns on the side (as made by Maerklin). The crane car looks to be a re-rendering of the toy model as I don't think that the model was that accurate. If the trains had Maerklin type couplers or had the Maerklin symbol(s) on them it would be more blatant.
As stated, I think Tintin also had some drawings that were probably inspired by model trains.

Difficult to find German prototypes in the European comic art world, but I succeeded to do so: DB class 23 steam locomotive, Maerklin art. 3005 / 30050 etc ?  Signals are not of German origin. ;o) A. Franquin: Spirou et Fantasio, "QRN sur Bretzelburg", pg.22, Charleroi, 1966 |
