Hi
I'm spending a few days in Adelaide next week. Anyone got any good shops or collectors to contact. I'm not expecting a huge response but you never know.
Thanks Roger

Topic moved from the 'Collector's Corner' to the right place. / kweek.

And then moved to "General", since I think it's an even better place... /Webmaster Smile

Hello Roger,

Whilst I buy most of my stuff from Germany, I have had occasional dealings with :

http://www.orientexpressmodels.com.au/index.htm

and have found them competent.

Philip

Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings but The Orient Express does not I repeat NOT deal in Marklin what so ever, the last time i went there, as i live in Adelaide, i got one of the dirtiest , distasteful looks from the people behind the counter, almost to the point of me wishing to use some extreme language back at these supposes train enthusiasts. Yes they do have a huge range of all sorts of Model railway tons and tons of it but Please do not ask for anything Marklin or Marklin related.
Adelaide is a wonderful large country town to visit as a city but when it comes to Marklin the only way we can obtain any is thru the wonderful Internet or thru Members of the Marklin Model Railway club Of South Australia, for further information on our Club feel free to contact
Dusan, President on Mobile 0404 377 693 or email marklinmrcsa@internode.on.net

Dale, Secretary on email admin@mmrcsa.com.au

Asit s happens next weekend the 11th is our annual christmas break up held at one of our members houses to have BBQ and to chat and run trains so please contact iether Dale of Dusan and see if you can arrange for some more details.

Regards Peter From Adelaide

Orient were at the Liverpool exhibition in Sydney this year & I had almost the same response that Peter received . Now days it is getting harder & harder to find any "M" dealers in Oz , there is to my knowledge only Noel in Brissy & Train Trader in Sydney who are capable of supplying most of what may be required including some hard to buy items. There is a fairly good rumor that Train Trader are shutting up shop at Xmas time this year for good so that will only leave Hobbyco in Sydney to my knowledge but they mainly concentrate their business in the cheap plastic market for little kids .Looks like trips to Germany or Holland to partake in Eurospoor where for many of us will break the bank with what is available over there .

Cheers Tom in Oz .

Well the Märklin Model Railway Club of South Australia (oldest Märklin Club in the Southern Hemisphere.......going on 46 yearsThumpUp ThumpUp ThumpUp ) is situated just out of Adelaide, close to the Edinburgh air base (see Facebook Page), and I (unfortunately Crying Crying) happen to be the president. We did have a large 10m x 4m modular layout, but that is now all gone, as we are in the process of building a permanent club layout (the modular was mine)

Depending on what days you'll be in Adelaide, we can come to some type of arrangement to take you to the club rooms and have a bit of a natter and a cup or two, if you are interested. Or we could meet somewhere in the city for a chin wag.

Otherwise as Philip has suggested, there is the Orient Express, and Pete is right, they do not stock or are interested in Märklin, although they do have a well equipped hobby shop......but priceyScared Crying Crying

There is also Junction Models on Main North Rd, fairly sparce stock. They are more into Australian/British/American outline, but do have some well priced scenery items.

If you decided to go out of Adelaide and travel down to Victor Harbour (God's Waiting roomBigGrin LOL LOL Blink LOL LOL LOL ), there is End of Line Hobbies, again mostly Australian.

There are other hobby shops in Adelaide and suburbs, but if they say model trains, it's usualy Hornby/chaep palstic train sets

If you want to meet me or some of our members, pm me, see what we can do.ThumpUp ThumpUp ThumpUp

Thanks for the tips. I used to buy some gear from John Simon. His father used to be the Marklin agent in Adelaide. My era of interest is only in pre 1960 so it it's pretty limited. I only fly in today and will do top deck if there is one tomorrow and then Kangaroo Island on Monday. Tuesday morning is free at the moment.

Back in Perth. I walked into a shop opposite the Central Markets called Vintage Market and thought there must be some Marklin here. Unfortunately everything but. They had some Lionel and were charging like a wounded bull. Had a great time in Adelaide and enjoyed the stay. I looked John Simons house and it looks like there is a block of flats there. Does anyone know if he is still around. Sorry I could not catch up but I had the FD and daughter with me and I should give trains a rest.

I was talking to the owner of Hobbyco yesterday and he told me that they are very much into Marklin products - they still have a large range and will take orders if they are not in stock. They have deliveries from Marklin once a month and they are changing their delivery system to DHL which will significantly shorten the delay time. Also, they have been dealing in Marklin products from the early '50's and will continue to do so.

Regards
Greg
