Afternoon all, Just got a loco from Token that I knew was in the wrong box........ however I have never noticed coloured stickers on the boxes before. All mine are still packed away and I can only check about half a dozen and none have the coloured dots. I have seen boxes with a code sticker on them once or twice but........... I have not seen these before ?? Thoughts, opinions ? |
Sad when its cheaper to buy a new 29640 starter set from Germany than a CS2 on its own in Oz, welcome to the joys of Marklin down under . |

If stuck on, maybe some kind of dealer discount tracking thing, if they're printed on, no bloody idea mate, but surely off since it hasn't appeared before! |

Hi all
I have 3 locos from Token and none of my boxes have coloured dots on them (they just happen to be beside me, so I checked).
It is possible that the dots were put on the boxes by the retailer from whom it was first purchased. I seem to recall from retail experience many many years ago that during stock taking (usually at the end of the financial year), once an item was entered into the stock take, a coloured dot was placed on the item so it wasn't done again. Different coloured dots were used each year. This may be a long shot but it is the best explanation I've got for your dots, Shamu.

Hi!
I have seen dealers that used such dots for discount codes. Could relate to stock taking - time to re-think the discount level. |

OT, but it's a pity they made such a mess taking the price sticker off!

OT too, I fully agree, but there are various methods for removing (most) stickers in a more elegant manner than displayed in the picture. For instance, there are "sticker removers" (Etikettenlöser) in various forms (for instance these two: http://www.herma.ch/de/kleben/etikettenloeser.html or http://www.conrad.ch/ce/...kettenloeser-80609-200ml ). Personally, I hate price stickers on my boxes and make a habit of removing them immediately. No other inhabitant of my home shall be able to learn what I paid... With regard to the dots, certain manufacturers also used them to identify the color of the coach/van contained in older boxes without transparent window (for instance HAG freight vans).

It could have been a legendary post.. John caught on .. Eventually, there was going to be a poll to see who could see the dots - like that dress a few years ago.. |

My immediate thought was stock take tracking, use a different coloured dot each year when doing a stock take so you know which items you have checked off. [edit] I see others have had the same idea. Also I don't recall seeing the other sticker with the RN... just above the catalogue number before, possibly the stock database number for the shop. [/edit]

Now then at risk of being shouted at for being dumb and acknowledging that this was not the item in the box; what does the other notation on the box R5NR11 mean? Its not showing on this box http://www.ebay.co.uk/it...533ac:g:4x4AAOSwHMJYJfhJ and I cant find any thing similar on any of my boxes.

I referred to it as an RN number in my post, but it was this number I was referring to. I think it is the shop stock number that they would refer to when doing a stock take or audit.
