So these things are simplicity - motor driven, with feedback contacts (useful for telling PC programs about the states on power-up).
Designed to sit under the layout and operate the turnouts via rods:

The image depicts how to drive them with mechanical switches:

Wiring them up to a decoder such as a Littfinski SA-DEC-4-MM ( https://www.elriwa.de/media/pdf/SADEC4MM_MP1.pdf )

To be had for €13 (plus shipping) (The Littfinski decoders are €46 plus shipping that drive 4 outputs and is assembled in case), so €25 per turnout

This seems like a good way to computer control turnouts, as an alternative to the Viessmann 4554 ($53 per) or Märklin ($47 per) solutions - still, how to mount these things below the layout board for C-Track ....

Would it not be simpler to just use one or more digital turnouts?

Mine work very well.

Just a suggestion.

Yes it would be simpler, IF the digitally controlled turnout motors were 99.9% reliable, but historical record has shown they are not.
Which brings up two points:
1) a more reliable control (robust motor and gear or servo) and
2) easier to service (mounted below the the board accessible from underneath, rather than embedded in the c-track roadbed)

Beyond that some folks like the more realistic slow movement of the motor drives (vs the snap over of the solenoid coil Märklin solution) and the acoustic differences (removing the loud clack).

I'm more interested in the reliability and serviceability aspects personally. Having to cut large access holes under the turnouts everywhere just in case isn't something I'm looking forward to.

I also prioritize this after having some failures with Märklin motors and decoders on my previous layout. I just ordered a couple of these to try out as well. Got some good reviews from two track modelers:
