Hi John. My 2011 Koll's Kompakt Katalog states that Lok 3335 was made from 1993-1998 (6 years).

Lok 3322 is from 1986- 1993 (8 years). Hope this helps you. Peter Smile

Hi John

I must thank you for inspiring me to have another look at my layout and although I haven't yet headed towards anything more permanent, I am making better use of the space that I do have, with the idea of perhaps making it permanent. My tracks are still in the land of flat and the great big hand in the sky still manages the turnouts. Mulling over the auto option but I like to be 'active' with what's going on with the layout.

I did try doing a second level but I need to rethink how I am doing it. I guess not trying to cut costs and using proper materials would be the first step.

A little off topic but I know you're also a fan, last night I went to see the one off screening of Roger Waters - The Wall Drool hells teeth that guy knows how to put on a good show!!!!!!!!!! When it's available on DVD, get it, you won't be sorry. I envy those folks who got to see the show live.

Hi all,

I decided to make a new video of my 4 x BR23s running on the layout.
Two are DA800 and two are 3005 models.
No sound modules - the old locos make enough of the sound from the wheels and gears.
Note the rolling stock to match !

Automation from s88 connected to contact tracks and home made braking modules.BigGrin

Well John,

I have missed seeing a lot of your development during my busy time away.
Looking great... and its big enough to keep your head occupied!

BTW I fed my nostalgia for the train line to Simon's town and Fishhoek with these youtube videos.
Would be even better to take a train with a lovely South African girl like that!
Cheers!
Mark

Anyone wondering why I am so nostalgic just take a look:

Hi all,

I enjoyed some fun during the weekend with setting new routes for automated trains.
ICE2 and DB103 and DBClass03 and E94 were main attractions.

Here is a video filmed from an Overview perspective, looking down at the layout.
I hope you enjoy it !

Hi all,

Following on from above, I went down to the track side, and made a video of action close up.
This video is filmed from the space where my Matterhorn normally stands, and gets some close up action.

Hi John

Some questions for you please ?

- Do you usee a software for the automatism of your layout?

- What are curved used in your layout? R1, R2, R3?

Thank your for the answersCool

Have a nice day

Hello Thewolf,

I use only CS1 triggered by s88.
No other software.

In the layout, I am using R1 and R2 and R3 and R4 in the station area, also R1 and R2 and R3 around Matterhorn on bottom level, and R3 and R4 on top level.

Congratulations. The result is excellent without sotfwareCool

In the R1 and R2, no problems with long trains or with long coaches?

I ask this question because I use many R1 and R2 in my layout under construction.

A passenger car of more than 28-29 cms will not pass in R1, I believe

Hi,

Almost all of my passenger wagons are 24cm.
But I prefer to use freight on the R1 anyway.
The ICE wagons seem to be alright on the R1

Hi all,

I have been running trains in auto mode .. that is using the CS1 Routes activated by s88 input triggers.
With 5 trains running, all of them 2.5m in length, I had to watch out for points and crossings to be set correctly.
Fortunately everything went well today, and I had a lot of fun.

Peter,

Thanks for your note ..

As you may know, I was employed by the Shell Company in Cape Town for 34 years, so I am proud to have these Shell tankers. Several of them I had purchased at local Hobby Sales to build up my collection, but I bought 6 more of them at the Marklin Museum when I visited Goppingen last month !

I left the employment in March due to re-location of the business office to Johannesburg, so now I an no longer employed ..

Hi all,

I just thought that you may be interested in some facts from the video :

All six trains in the video were analog trains which I converted into digital
All Braking Delays were designed on circuit boards and built and soldered by myself (with acknowledgement from original design of Huib Maaskant)

Hi all,

Retirement, Central Station II, extension to layout BigGrin BigGrin BigGrin BigGrin

Aaahh, the joys of reaching that milestone.

I always wanted a Central Station II, and I took an opportunity to purchase a 60215 with latest stuff.
Am really enjoying the Routing features, including Switching Turnouts, Signals, and now including Locomotive Sounds.

Currently extending the layout down the side of the garage wall. The length along the garage wall will be about 5.5m in one long straight section. Can run trains up to 4m in length, before the tail bites the front on the reverse loop.

Attached picture shows the looping section. It is double-storey so that there is an upper level and a lower level also.
New Braking Delays designed and constructed using M84 and the Solenoid and some simple electronics. Great stuff !!
I have modified all of my Braking Delays to be 1.4m in length, running bi-directional (trains can come to the braking section from either side).

Tomorrow (Friday) will be another Marklin day, probably Saturday will be too, and probably Sunday too.
Which day comes after Sunday ? Marklin day !

Mark,

Yes, it's great to have a CS2.

A CS2 is required if you want a higher level of automation but without using external software.
It would be nice if Marklin could update the correct language in the CS2 screens to reflect the language chosen.

Remember to pencil in some days in your diary to chat Marklin for your next visit here !

Hi, John:

How far is Johannesburg from Cape Town?

Have you considered some volunteer work, as a tutor for (disadvantaged) kids in high school or simply as an exhibitor of Marklin trains?

Your layout is so nice that I think it would be a hit anywhere you would show a part of it. ThumpUp

Have a great Sunday, John, and everyone else in the forum. BigGrin

Hi John

Welcome to the retirement circle. Enjoy all the Marklin time!

I like the nice long loop you are adding to your layout. I have enjoyed using my CS2 although mine is mostly used as an interface to computer running. But not always. I use the layout feature to be able to easily change points.

We will be in Cape Town towards the end of the year and will pay you a visit.

Hi all,

Today I added some mountain scenery picture backdrops to the layout.
I really think it looks great !
Couldn't quite line it up perfectly, and some of it is sky blue and some mountain scenery, but it still looks fine !

See attached pictures :

You can also see the layout extension which is a 2.5m straight track to the reversing loop in the corner.
The layout extension will allow me to run trains up to 4m in length !

Regards,
John

Hi,

Perhaps you could blend the join (in photos 2 & 3) by putting in a half relief tree i.e. paint the tree trunk across the joint and then add some foliage material at the top so that the top of the tree partially overhangs the track.

Hi all,

I have made a new video which I think you will like : BigGrin BigGrin
The layout is operated by Marklin CS2 with s88 feedback and automated routing in the Memory.

John New Video of Matterhorn Layout

There are 5 routes which I have programmed so far in the CS2 Memory. Each route uses different locomotives and different sections of track. If I chain the routes together, the automation will run for about 30 minutes before the trains are located back in their original starting positions.
There can be 8 trains on this layout, with most of the trains being about 2m in length.

I can add more trains to run on different routes if they would be shorter in length, and would be using more signals on the layout.

The video includes my new layout extension down the side wall with a reversing loop at the end, on both upper and lower levels of the layout.

I hope you enjoy the video !!

Hi all,

At this time of the year, the late afternoon sun shines through the window onto the Matterhorn Layout, sending shadows out over the track.

I was running some old steam locomotives, some BR23, BR24, BR03, BR01 and some small analog locos too.
Using the CS2 to run automated sessions for 8 locos on the track, using timer functions and braking delays, etc.
I have 3 x s88 feedback modules giving me 48 trigger points on the layout for complex automation, and using 14 signals.
Just a whole lotta fun BigGrin BigGrin BigGrin

Yes, you are correct, the old locos deserve better than to be left on grass.
On this layout, I did not include sidings for parking extra trains, unfortunately.

Hi all,

And here is an eye-level video of trains running.
It shows the additional loops which I have added for trains to wind their way down the wall and loop around at the end.
The signals have been added on since the video was taken.

Hi John,

Nice Add to your layout ThumpUp
There is no reason not to take advantage of the possibility of our system to make loops so easily.

And I like your E94 locos... ...and the "surprise" caboose at the end of the consist Smile

Best Regards
Joël
