Hello, Everyone: I am about to change my present layout to something a bit smaller but more functional. Nothing fancy. Suggestions would be appreciated, with reference to some plans available on the net to see and copy. For example, I found this video on YouTube that shows a nice, simple layout that seems to be right up my alley. I would add some houses and ornaments to it. There must be other nice and simple layout plans out there and it would help if I could look at them. Ideally, I would like to have at least three ovals, one dual (AC/DC), one analogue Roco (DC) and, obviously, one digital Marklin (maybe two ovals, joined by turnouts). I also have one helix coming, in Marklin R1 that Mike has ordered for me. There must be space to park full trains, with or without a loco, so I can just start the fun going. I have at my disposal a somewhat small area of 150 cm X 260 cm (60" X 102"). Incidentally, I am considering having a big Marklin R5 oval around the perimeter to run my FAST Italian stallion and maybe a Roco R4 oval (size R3 in Marklin size) to run the Roco Ice train. Thank you in advance to anyone who may want to give me feedback. |

Baggio; There is very old but very good book on track plans by Linn Westcott. The following is a summary of the trackplans in the book including thumbnails on each of the plans. The plans cover every conceivable available space parameter and also a description of the operating possibilities that it covers Linn Westcott ThumbnailsIncidentally, my personal layout is based on track plan 79 in this book. You will unfortunately notice, that all of these plans assume one standard control and power mechanism. I think to truly progress, this point is important to think about. Thank you

Yes, the book is a classic! I always found 25 and 43 inspiring. 36 is cool, but needs more space than envisaged in the book. One might recognise features of 27 in the Blue River RR of my younger generation. ;o) |

Thank you, JCR. From the thumbnails, I can see resemblance of your layout to track 79. Some of the layouts are pretty simple, but some (most?) are anything BUT simple. Nevertheless, food for thought. |

Thank you, Hoffman, the information is well-appreciated. I went on the site and not only it has plans, but also some magnificent colour pictures of professional layots. A feast for the eyes. |
