I have a developing analogue M track layout and have a couple of switch section number 5146. Can anyone explain the function of the switch and more importantly have a electrical / wiring diagram to set it up?

Hi Ken,
When the slider of the locomotive (or of the wagon with lights) passes over the movable transparent plastic piece placed in the middle of the track, a contact to the ground (rails connected to the brown cable) is made. If you connect the plug of the turnout/signal to the socket on the 5146 track, the slider connects the socket to the ground (gives a short impulse) and operates the turnout/signal as if you operated it with a pushbutton. As there are two sockets on the 5146 track, the contact is closed on the socket located in the travel direction.
Warning: the slider must absolutely not be constantly on the movable transparent plastic piece, otherwise you will burn for overheating the coil of the turnout/signal.
About the electrical / wiring diagram, please think to normally open contacts, one terminal connected to the metal track (ground) and the other to the socket.
