Recently I bought some Trix wagons (23016, 23017 and 23018) which have the grey fine spoked wheels. Naturally they are insulated as they are intended for DC. I subsequently bought the recommended AC wheels 36669400. When the wheels arrived I noticed that my contact sections were not being triggered so I checked them and discovered that the AC wheels I got are in fact insulated from each other.
When I enquired about the likelihood that perhaps I was sent DC wheels 36669200 in error I was told that both the AC and DC wheels have the wheels insulated. So it would seem that both are identical even though they have different part numbers.
This does not make any sense and I will contact Marklin to find out if the these AC wheels are indeed insulated. In the meantime, if anyone has bought the AC wheels 36669400 could you please check whether the wheels you got were conducting or insulated.
Thanks in advance.

Hi, I thought - that rings a bell! I will explain.
A friend of mine who mostly buys Fleischmann HO stuff, recently purchased a couple of Marklin era I and II wagons. He asked me if I could replace the wheels for him. As I occasionally buy Trix wagons, this was a win-win situation - I get the AC wheels, he gets the DC wheels.
Anyway, we lined up a swapping day, and I swapped out the wheels from his Marklin items, replacing them with the Trix wheels. (I had to purchase some Fleischmann DC spoked wheels to complete the process, as I did not have enough spoked ones)
When I got them home, I installed the supposedly AC wheels into my own stock. To my surprise, on some stock, I had replaced DC wheels ..... for DC wheels! How this occurred I will never know. Maybe the dealer replaced them, maybe they came from the factory like that.
I have lost track of which stock is involved now. For your information, Fleischmann do a series for AC wheels, and they fit most of the modern Marklin stuff. Their spoked variety are 6562, or split-spoke are 6563. Available singly or in boxes of 10 (price per is same). I buy mine from Mittagong, All Aboard Modellbahn.
