Thanks for responding. A nice E63, Ray, and also charming for its bright real light bulbs. Sorry you have only a few in HO, Bigdaddy. Please see my “Reason” below.

Before my request-time expires, I’ll explain briefly why I made it. The photos below show my 460#s on an M-Track carpetbahn pulled by a BR 55 (No. 55-5415 from a 29840 set). Most have OEM loads, some are home-made. I’d still very much like to see a few examples of how others have used such older cars if anyone has them. Steventrain appears to have some similar gondolas shown in the last two photos of Post #145.

Reason = I’m upgrading my layout and rolling stock, and am vacillating between keeping or selling & replacing them as I proceed. A few more examples from the Forum (even some in a mixed consist) may help me make that decision. I’ll wait patiently.

Regards -- Richard

Note: The photos might look stretched because of their cropping. If they do, click to enlarge them for the correct perspective.

Well . . . . . new requests have slowed here, so I’ll try to give a restart. Updating my last post, I’ve decided not to sell my set of old sturdy Relex-coupled 4601, -02 & -04 coal gondolas. I even found a few more to add, and the consist’s become one of my favorites. Photos attached.

My new request is for a consist with white or light-colored Grain Silo Cars, similar to Marklin’s #46323, #46321, or similar sets. A mixed consist is fine, and even better if they’ve been weathered a bit.

As before, the photos might appear stretched because of their cropping. If they do, click to enlarge them for the correct perspective.

Regards -- Richard

Richard,

I'm glad you've decided to keep them. You have a good size coal train going. They look to be in excellent shape, not warping like so many of the 46xx gondolas do over time. I only have one of these, but it is a family favourite.

Brandon -- Yes, all in great shape, with no warps, and raised & embossed side-lettering that I like. Collected gradually over the years. Along with these, I’d had a very nice 10-car #46030 set that was excellent to display, but just too delicate to use on track. My decision last month was which set to keep . . . . . the 46030 set went to eBay, the 460x’s will stay.

Now just waiting with bated-breath to see a few Grain Silo Cars.

Hi,

Someone must have a photo or two of grain cars.

Here is a photo courtesy of a French retailer, PierreDominique.
They are era IV SNCF wagons made by Makette in HO.
I do own one of these, but no photo I can show on the internet.

http://www.pierredominique.com/produits/800_301-pierredominique.com_makette_4615_2_.jpg

And another Jouef car from Cherbourg Maquettes, from whom I buy a couple of models.

http://cherbourg-maquettes.com/catalog/images/JOUEF6117C.jpg

And the real thing. These cars are ubiquitous in Canada, there are currently over 17,000 of them, built for the Government to facilitate Canada's grain harvest and shipment.
Multiple colours abound, her is an example.
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_kawpWTOGqPk/S6Fnbl2QCWI/AAAAAAAAB1s/-IZ8I7wSM9w/s400/blogcylgrn10.jpg

Now I would like to see a photo of an American tank car.

regards
Kimball

Hi Brandon,

What a classic photo. I love the twist, one and a ThumpUp half.

That is a sanding tower perhaps, what a beauty.
Coaling towers were often similar, only much larger.

Hehehe,

A few here :

Freight train crossing over swing bridge, St. Joseph, Michigan, USA.

The BNSF Railway Bridge 9.6 is a swing-span railroad bridge across the Columbia River, connecting Portland, Oregon with Vancouver, Washington. It was opened in 1908. This photo was taken from near the bridge's north end, in Vancouver, and shows a BNSF freight train starting to cross.

Hi,
This one is at Selby, over the Ouse River in England, in the 1970s.
The diesel-electric engine was one of the Deltics, so named because they operated three banks of engines.

Richard, the rules of this game means you ought not to post until after 24 hours of the last post, if there has been no reponse to that post.
For example, if after 24 hours, no person comes up with a photo of the 43981, yourself, or anyone else, is free to post on any other subject.

Well, to quote the punch line of an old joke: I like the way you are thinking. Your reply is in line with Ray´s red coloured streamlined steamer and Yumgui´s free interpretation of "swing bridge" and "train on it". So if nobody protests, I would say you should state what you want to be shown.

Excellent, Ray!!! You avoided the "obvious" trap!!! ThumpUp
(I did not really expect a prototype photo of the Märklin BR 53 Mallet)....

The Prussian G3 is a fully valid entry for the question (BR 53), even if it's not by Borsig (optional), nor is it in DRG livery in the photo.

What I was really looking for as the trickiest full option answer was the Saxonian V (or V V) by Borsig, haven't seen a pic of that.... BigGrin

Here's another DRG BR 53, The Wuerttemberg Fc.

Ok, I would like to see a picture of the famous Kiruna-Narvik iron ore train - pulled by steam locos.

No use posting a pic of the train pulled by Dm/Dm3.... BigGrin

Juhan,

I am not sure if this counts...from wiki:

UserPostedImage

"A steam locomotive hauling an ore train on Ofotbanen, at Narvik, Norway."
I am not sure it counts, because it does not say the destination. Worth a shot :)

Still prolly doesn't count ... but you can just see enough of the loco to imagine it's a steamer with a tender and not a Dm etc ... ^^ ?

Thanks Juhan. Perhaps if my language skills were better the result would have been more interesting.

I would like to see Steam and/or diesel double traction of some kind. Poster can choose.

Ak,

If you subtract the defect Thalys traction from the two working 218s, does that end up as single traction? BigGrin

What would you like to see?

Hi,

I have seen many photos of engines being loaded or unloaded from ships.
Many locomotives were made for export over the last two centuries.

To be loaded or unloaded, they have to be in the air for at least 10 minutes.
Here is one example, from Ireland.
http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7150/6633962763_fe56d6abfb_z.jpg

Now I would like to see a train carrying an aeroplane (following the theme....)

regards
Kimball
