Hi,
Marklin sound decoders 60965, 60966 and 60967 are listed on Marklin's website, however no description is given. I know 60965 has steam engine sounds. Does any one know which sounds apply to the others, please?

OK I just answered my own question. I phoned Marklin, and found that 60966 is the diesel sound, and 60967 is the electric loc sound.
I also asked if I could wire up a second motor from the decoder, in parallel to the first, and the gentleman said "no problem". So I can use the one decoder, to run two locos coupled together.

Hi Kimball! Actually, the three decoders are the same (talking about the hardware). Only the pre-installed sounds are different. Nothing prevents you from installing other sounds if you wish, i.e., buy a diesel sound decoder and after upload a steam sound... Regards, Walter

You can replace the standard sound with a sound project that is more suitable for your loco. I presume the standard diesel sound is for BR 216/218. There are other projects for ER 20, F7, Ludmilla, V 200, rail bus, ... It's similar for steamers and electric locos. |

regards Kimball Kimball, I am assuming that you wish to run two motors from one decoder to run a double header, without having to sequence two decoders? I want to also simulate this and was wondering if it would be better to remove the motor from the second loco, and just have one powered loco, either pushing or pulling a [empty] loco shell, which draws current for lighting from power conducting couplings. Tom, I would agree with you about the UI on the CS2. I have been trying to research this subject, and I believe that the more you read the CS2 manual, the less you understand. I believe it contains an evil force know as anti-understanding, whereby the more you read the dumber you become. Although I have not checked, I am assuming the sound projects you have referenced are available form the Marklin website somewhere? BR Glenn |

Hi,
Thanks for the input to this topic, it is interesting.
I have in fact been using 60965 in old brass steam engines of US prototype, and have found them excellent in terms of small size and performance. The fact that the sounds are not 'quite' from North America does not deter me. I don't have a CS2, and am unlikely to acquire one, so the sounds will stay non-American.
This time I may use the 60966 for 2 US diesel engines, so again it is non-American. But because of the large size of the body, I may go for a US decoder (maybe MRC) with the proper sounds.
