I'm trying to install an ESU Loksound M4 decoder 64499 into a Marklin 29483 Cargo electric loco mfx.

Is it possible to program the decoder with my CS2 or do I need a lokprogrammer? If it's possible with the CS2 - how do I do it?

Regards
Greg
Take it easy . . . . or any other way you can get it !!!!

Greg,

one can assume the CS 2 is restricted to 16 functions whereas the ESU decoder can reach 21 functions, as mentioned before, there are the basic CV's you can change but I would think any sound functions you wouldn't be able.
Also the 64499 is a universal sound decoder, so how do you expect to get the right sound functions for your model ?

if you have any queries about ESU decoders you can always ask me for free advice.

regards.,

Hi Greg,

Did you order it with the correct sound files already installed?
See the LokSound V4 manual at ESU. It's a downloadable PDF.
They give instructions on how to program with several control stations and I believe there's a CV cart in the back.
Good luck!

Edit: See page 35 of the manual

But I do have the obligatory (six) SBB Krocs
ECoS 50200, all FX and MFX decoders replaced with ESU V4s, operated in DCC-RailCom+ with ABC brake control.
With the exception of the passenger wagens with Marklin current conducting couplers, all close couplers have been replaced with Roco 40397.

Everything that can be achieved via CV programming can also be done with a CS2.
But you cannot upload sound projects.

Tip: you can download the LokProgrammer software, make the changes with that software (e.g. function mapping) and get a list of changed CVs from the software. This is much easier than finding the correct CVs in the manual.

But probably you don't need CVs anyway. The decoder is mfx and you should be able to make (most) adjustments using the normal mfx screens of the CS2.

Tom

Tom,

I believe the latest ESU decoders (sound) V4 M4 you also can change CV's whereas before this wasn't possible with mfx decoders.
