Mehmet Thank you so much for hosting me on a superb day in Instanbul ! As he mentioned in his post, Mehmet fetched me at the Airport at 6am and took me to my hotel at the end of the day at 6pm, and he looked after me for the whole day. We enjoyed a wonderful morning controlling trains and learning about the Marklin Istanbul layout, and he told me stories about the many characters on the layout, and some of their activities and their emotions. I most enjoyed the signalling system controlling the 3 trains in block control at the exit from the station. I indicated to Mehmet that it was my favourite part of the layout, so he named it as my place - thank you, Mehmet. In the afternoon, we then took commuter transport by bus, by sea ferry, and by railway to my hotel, which was close to the airport. I took a stroll along next to the marina with boats and then walked long the beachfront to see the many people swimming in the summer time. I really have to say a big thank you to Mehmet for a fantastic day which I shall remember for a long time. This is about the first time that I have managed to access an internet since my visit to Mehmet, because I have been sailing in the Aegean Sea for 2 weeks on a sailing boat. I am very fortunate that my father and my mother and my 3 brothers all got together for a sailing holiday in the Greek Cyclades Islands - we have all been keen sailors for about 30 years. We sailed for 2 weeks around the islands, we had some fantastic sailing !! My wife and 2 children have since joined me and we have now travelled to Santorini, where we shall be based for one week. Thereafter we shall visit some more islands before setting off for home (and a visit to the bank manager). Regards, John

Hello Marco, As promised some more about the hat.....Actually it is a present from a dearest friend of mine......Can Bayrı.....He is a GREAT artist....Marklinistanbul and I owe HIM a lot..... ...the picture was taken at one of our LONGEST train TRIALS.... ...the hat was made in the most famous hat-shop in Istanbul..... ...and it is still the original hat TCDD(The State Railways of the Turkish Republic),as far as I know.... Cheers, mehmet |

Hi Mehmet,
Thank you for this information. Much appreciated !!
That is a beuatiful cap! Fantastic.
A few weeks ago I also bought a railroad cap, but not as nice as yours.
At home we always arguing who may wear the cap this time. My sons (11 years) and their friends love it. So do I.
Marco

Mehmet:
As always the Layout looks amazing. So what are you doing to the turn table area? Adding more tracks or fixing a problem on that great layout.
