I've collected these carriages for some time and unfortunately 6 carriages fully loaded with cars had been taken unlawfully from my garage some years ago.
So I'm hunting down more carriages and hopefully will have a total of 20 and may be down the track it will increase to 30.

I've changed the coupling so the carriages are closer together.

You can see with the photo below, there are 2 original holes in the coupling, I've taken the axle assembly apart, drilled a bigger diameter in the first hole, inserted a bolt with a Benzing circlip (originally from 4663)

Oliver,

The era of the Volkswagen and beyond, a BR 218 would be nice with a sound decoder, may be a BR 212 and they may also have been pulled by a steam loco ?
Have to research a bit more into it.

I've just read a quick history of these cars. 10 VW's or 8 other motorcars.
It wasn't very economical to transport cars, the weight of the carriage weighing 23 t and the cars may be 8 tons. they've lasted until 1964 and than other versions had been constructed.
These Car transport wagons always came in 2 permanent coupled carriages.

Thank you for the information John. Always interesting to learn more about the item's prototypes.
Intersting also how the carriges were innefficient. I always thought (from looking at the model) that they had low capacity compared to size and length and it proved to be correct.
None the less I think that your consist looks great and it must look very cool on a layout.

Although you may not have to worry about economics and never looked at it from this angle, I've always liked the parade of auto transportcars, the same goes for tanker cars.
