Hi guys, I am having my eyes on the 39020, the Br18.3.
Any of you have this one? How are the running characteristics? How about the sounds? Anything else that I should know or be aware of?

I have the 18.3

It'sd a good looking locomotive. No problems on my lay-out. Nice sound.

I have the one and run very good with sounds great.

There is a problem with loco bit stopped climbing up the hill with five or more coaches.

Thanks guys.
Steven, how steep was the incline? I suppose it was pulling passenger coaches. Which ones? You're saying a bit of a stop. It was a jerky movement, or stopped altogether for a second or two then it started by itself? Did you see a pattern - stopping around the same spot, with the same cars? Thanks for sharing this info.
Cheers,
Sebastian

If you fancy a bit of conversion work then I can put in a word for the older 18.3s I have two of them one is an old style LFCM and the other is a converted 5 pole motor ( Neither have sound but that can be dealt with) These are excellent runners and very smooth. I guess that it is dependent on the decoders but both of the models are mechanically excellent. The LFCM has less detail as it is an earlier casting and he tender is separate but they pair I have cost only around 100 Euros to buy and around 40 to put decoders in ....I have a lot of fun converting them and have had hours of contentment running them..............

Hi,
The model you're referring to is actually BR18.4 or before the DRG era was known as a Bavarian s3/6.

The BR 18.3 (39020/1/5) is an entirely different locomotive - it was previously known as a Baden IVh.

When these old state railways' locs are integrated into DRG, they were all grouped into BR 18 family because of their similar 4-6-2 configuration.

Banco, thanks for the offer. As exciting and challenging as it sounds I am not that good with electronics, so I'll have to pass. Sorry, do not mean in a bad way.
Tim, thanks for the link. I've read it and now I am a bit concerned with getting that beauty.
