News from Märklin: E 18 (39680) and 144 (39440) can be updated now. I bet that 39681 can also be updated now.
No date yet for 151 (39582). |

Does a 39195 E lok have the compact C sine or the older early style C sine motor in it? Thanks Mike |

Never mind, answered my own question, was released in 03, so it should be the larger C sine motor. My layout is so small I would probably never notice the issues on one of the affected loks |

Mike, the problem is not the compact c-sine motor, the problem is the driver board between mfx decoder and c-sine motor. There are at least three models with classic c-sine motor and mfx (V 200, BR 151, BR 103).
Re: 39195: no mfx, no problem ... |

Marklin makes sure their stuff works as expected. !!!
In my case this is true but just look through the postings to see this is not I am afraid the case for others. What I would say is there is an improvement which hopefully will continue.

Good to hear, Per! The information that I got yesterday was that the release ("Freigabe") for the upgrade of these three models is expected, but currently still pending - so it may take a while until you get your model back. Did they acknowledge by e-mail (just thinking: what could you have done different than Mr. Williams)? Yes, they acknowledged by email. They didn't give a time estimate, just "snellstmöglich". Which could mean it takes long time if it is not possible to do it faster.

It is a relavant question, if you take it as a real question and not just a rethorical one. But that discussion would probably be better to take in a separate thread. Quote:[size=1" face="Verdana" id="quote]quote: If they were clever they'd return to stuff that works ...

I see this topic has been going now since January. When matched with the CS upgrades we spend more time on getting out models fixed than playing with them. Good thing though is it made Macca a very honourable customer. I am beginning to think that I am the only one who has not had anything upgraded (avoided the poor motor). not Had my MS replaced. Not had my CS upgraded or should I say lost or in fact had anything sent back to M with a complaint. In all the previous years I had one faulty Loco which Lokshop dealt with within 10 days to my full satisfaction. Never mind guys to all who are waiting on the return of their models have faith and keep an eye open for the canoe.

Hi Nikos. Good to hear from you again. Drop into the cave anytime ... much better than a visit to the Doctors.
Nev. Isnt it nice to be called Mr Williams and being shown the respect you deserve. I expect the next mail from M will have you as an honourable customer same as Macca. Do you think if I sent them an email I could be honourable as well. Never mind ww111 we would only win again and it gets boring lol.

Good point, Lutz. But you can try Primex, too, if you have a proof of purchase not older than two years.
So for the international audience: don't send non-Märklin locos to Märklin, don't poor hot coffee on your legs (or other parts of any body/anybody), don't dry cats in microwave ovens, don't change horses in midstreams, don't throw stones in glass houses, don't ...
Maybe I should add a disclaimer to my signature!
Those who don't have M* products can still try the auto-responder (if they don't mind being called "Dear Märklin-Customer). |

Thanks for the information Lutz. All three of my first generation small c-sine locomotives are on the list. My Henschell-Wegmann is probably the one that would benefit the most from an upgrade. Hi Tom I only use Plonker which being an English term I reckon is OK. I dont think I will ever be honourable as all my locos work fine so dont need to go back to M. Now I know that I cant send HAG to Marklin for repair I thought I might be in trouble but then again they are like my Marklin Locos they keep going fine as well. As for Brawa I expect this fine and wonderful firm would send somebody to my home with a brand new model should anything ever go wrong (winkie smiley should be here lol)
Having read the last bit again I wonder just how many will take it seriously and if anybody could actually take a joke against themselves and have a laugh ... what a difference it would make to our forum if they could.

How to recognise the new/modified driver electronics? -Driver electronics of a Märklin Re 4/4I 39421 with the latest generation SDS-Is it correct if I say that the text -"csin3..."- on the sticker of the chip is an indication that the locomotive has the latest driver installed? In other words will all modified locos have a similar chip installed as well? Thanks in advance for your answers. Kind regards Guus P.S.: I know that you posted a reply with a similar content some time ago Lutz, but the pictures of your locos lead me to believe the telltale is the partnumber of the complete circuitboard i.s.o. the number of the chip. I got two of the three looks I sent in back today. The 39820 is still at Märklin. This fits well with Lutz' information that the upgrade for 39820 isn't available yet.
About the two other, 37900 and 39980:
- Both are cured from the voltage dependency. - The 37900 is cured from its starting problem. - The 37900 is cured from all forms of "Alzheimer", I mean really cured. - The speed curve non-linearity of the 37900 is even worse than before. It is the only bad thing with this upgrade, but I can live with it. - The 39980 runs smoother on (MS) speed step 1 than before. - The 39980 speed curve hasn't changed. - The 39980 is not really cured from "Alzheimer", only the CV73=3 fix is applied.
The big surprise is the really real fix of the Alzheimer problem in the 37900. I did not complain about the Alzheimer problem when I sent the loks in, so I didn't expect any real change there.

Some detail that may be interesting for some of you:
My 39980 has got a new mfx ID after the upgrade. Previous ID was 0xfff9d740. New mfx ID is 0xfff400a0. I did not record the ID of my 37900 before the upgrade, but the new ID is 0xffe9ffce. I have got the impression that they started at 0xffffffff and are counting downwards. This would indicate that the 37900 has got a much newer decoder than the 39980.
My 39180 is my newest lok and it has ID 0xffede4b2. The new decoder in the 37900 is (if my theory about the numbering is correct) newer than that, but the new decoder in the 39980 isn't. This has good correlation with the fact that the Alzheimer problem is really fixed in the 37900, it is marginally fixed in the 39180 and it is not fixed just worked around in the 39980. Development goes in the right direction it seems.

Hello: I can not understand why the 39820 diesel locomotive must be upgraded since it is not a Compact C Sine Model. I have one and it runs with no problems. I have only one Compact C Sine Model, 39010, that started to fail. It was send to Germany, upgraded and actually it works finely. Thanks in advance to any member of the forum who can answer this question. Julio

Quote:[size=1" face="Verdana" id="quote]quote:Originally posted by perz <br />I got two of the three looks I sent in back today.
Thanks for your extensive report Per. Kind regards Guus |

Hi Julio, From what I seem to understand ,there are even some of the original big C-sine models affected. Some- I emphasise not all- may be sensitive to voltage drops as well ,depending on which driver electronics are installed. Kind regards Guus |

The problem is not the Compact C Sine motor, the problem is the driver PCB between mfx decoder and motor. They don't replace the Compact C Sine motor, they replace the driver PCB (sometimes the decoder, too). That's why mfx locos with the "big" C Sine motor also suffer from the voltage dependency of this driver PCB. |

Thanks Tom, What I also seem to understand is that there are differences in between models of the same product number. In other words one 39820 may not be affected while the other 39820 may have a problem. It all depends on which driver circuit is installed ,which in turn may have to do with the date on which the loco was made. Kind regards Guus |

AFAIK this does not apply to affected "one time series" models (and I think the three "big" ones in question are one time series). This applies to regular models like E 10.3 (39120) and 01 (39010) that are still in production - the new ones run fine. |
