Take it easy John. It's not worth making yourself ill over this!
Remember, Lutz will defend everything from Marklin, so you're never going to convince him. (I think he must get a commission from M*)
Just vote with your wallet. It's the best way!

Hi Ray
, no no - it's never been my intent to convince Mr Hemmerich - it's useless
The only cause I'm posting this is there's still hope they might change their product policy
for good when missing our good money - thus you're right with "voting by wallet" [:p]
On the other hand they must be told
what's
wrong. For avoiding further mistakes ...

As you know, I mostly spend my money on good older Marklin.
Having said that I did splash out on one SDS loco, the Br218, and I'm not unhappy with the performance. The sound is very distracting, though, and I usually run it with the sound off.
I also have three of the new Hobby models, a Br185, a SBB Re482 and an OBB 2016. They are amazingly good value, though the reliability is an unknown quantity. Good metal bodies, though!
Sorry to keep heading more and more off-topic!

Well, I just heard from Jeff Stimson at Marklin USA. I am to send the VT08 to the Marklin repair facility at Walther's in Milwaukee. At least it doesn't have to cross the pond again. Looking forward to getting it back in service. It is really a great model and with the SDS upgrade it was running smooth and powerful. My 39980 Schienenbus is still going strong after it's upgrade!

Quo Vadis, Märklin?
Ron, I sent a query to Walther/Märklin service just last week re: the VT08.5 and compact c-sines in general. The response:
"There is not an upgrade program that has been announced, and there won’t be. The repairs of c-sine locomotives are handled on an individual basis. So far, I have received only two that were defective."
Guess I'll try Jeff [}:)]

Hal: The upgrade has already been done, but in Germany. When I got it back the decoder fried. That is what it is going to Milwaukee for.

Clarification appreciated, Ron. I haven't experienced any problems with my VT08 - in fact it has run very well since arrival - and I have run it a lot (a favorite). But, I have not run it under the kind of conditions that seem to make the problem(s) evident. My plan is to double the size of my layout this winter - we'll see what happens

Hal. Interesting wording on the reply you got, by the way:
"There is not an upgrade program
that has been announced
..." (emphasis added). This is being done very low key.
Actually I was happy with the way it ran before, except for some minor speed variations. I figured for the cost of postage it could get better so I went ahead with it. When I got it back it ran great...smooth and powerful... at least until it died. [:(]

Hello!
I received an email from M* today.
The following locos cannot yet be upgraded:
39440 BR 144
39582 BR 151
39680 BR E 18
And they cannot say when they will be upgraded.
The BR 151 has the big c-sine. I presume this also applies to other mfx locos with big c-sine (BR 103, BR V 200).
It also applies to variations of the BR E 18 (39681) etc.
Regards
Tom

To understand the above you have to be familiar with "The Hitch-hiker's Guide to the Galaxy", by the late Douglas Adams.
It seems there's a few Douglas Adams fans here!

Sorry guys! The quote is from Marvin, the depressed android who features in the BBC series "The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy."
He has this huge amount of brain power, for which there never seems to be a task given to him that equals it! -
http://en.wikipedia.org/...vin_the_Paranoid_Android
And Macca's reference to me having a brain upgrade comes as a result of some posts in another thread suggesting I lost my brain.....

Well, Asimov's Foundation Trilogy wound up with seven books, and would have been more if Isaac hadn't left us.

You guessed it: they send it to every customer.
And "very honourable" is the empty phrase used in formal letters.
I also received such a PDF file - and it was marked as "Entwurf" (draft).
It's a new service from M*. Good to know your locos arrived.
OK, bad if international audience don't understand what it means ...

David, I understood what you were joking about.
I just wanted to mention that formal German letters are old-fashioned; "Very honourable Mr. Soandso" simply means "Dear Sir" in contemporary English.
Regards
Tom

For Macca it is:
"Hey Kiwi fella"
Oops, way off topic. [V][V]

Remember also Politicians also have the Handle "The Honourable" which is a bit of an Oxymoron.

The conditional statement "as fast as possible" can also be interpreted as: truly "honorable" customers are served first. I for my part don't have any problem with this.

Update on my VT08 saga. Got an e-mail from Ken at Walthers. He cannot repair it since he has no experience with the SDS upgrade that was installed in it, so he is sending it to Göppingen for repair. Oh well.
