Due to a derailment yesterday 10 July 2008 at Köln the ICE3 Amsterdam - Frankfurt am Main is temporary out of use. All sets will be investigated first before they return into service.

This morning at Utrecht station it was announced like "Due to technical problems, there will be no ICE trains to Germany today. We apologize for the inconvenience."

As simple as that, not alternatives given -[:(!]

René - trying to obtain tickets to Zürich that were never delivered [:(]

Hi,

it's not only AMS - FRA. It's nearly all train relations run by ICE 3 all over Germany.
Lots of lines are cancelled and a few ones are run by replacements trains like IC.
This is a precaution check, as they learned something out of the Eschede desaster in the 90's.
Regard from Karachi

I'm sure the delays will be short lived. The DB is well managed. It could have to do with the warmer season affecting wheelset linings? Wasn't the Eschede crash in May of 1988?

if this was the very bad high fatality crash you are referring to, it was due to the steel "tire" delaminating from the wheel - unwinding almost as a piece of tape would from its spool. the straightened out steel tire thrust through the floor narrowly missing impaling a seated passenger. I guess at that point the train became unstable at the high speeds it was moving.

apparently a bad design.

I wonder if there is any impact on Spain's AVE and China's versions?

That is essentially what happened, it is also believed to have put the axel out of place. This then caught on the rails at a point which is what finally caused the train to derail.

The train was geting out of the Hauptbahnhof crossing over the bridge to Deutz.

Part of the train was on the Hohenzollernbrücke already when the derailment happened. Last coaches were still at the platform so that all passengers could leave the train safely.

Spotted today some ICE3 running again. According to NS Hispeed sometimes you need to change in Emmerich or Köln.
