Is is possible that some of them are on the upgrade program and others not? If so, how would one know? For example; would the serial number perhaps identify some early models with the bug and maybe the later models without the bug?

Ask M*.
In early April I received an e-mail from M* where they told me I could send the loco back for an update by end of April.
I didn't send it back yet (but I will later this year).

Hello!
I asked M* again how to proceed with my remaining unmodified C-Sine locos (including E 18 39680).
They wrote today that I shall not send any locos now; instead I shall contact them again by the end of the month.

Hello:
I think this is the forum to clarify the information related to the 39800 diesel locomotive.
I am interested in buying this model, but there is contradictory information about the type of motor it carries.
In Marklin.com the motor is described as an SDS one, but in the other web pages (including maerklin.de), it says that it is a Compact C-Sine motor. ¿Does it means that the original motor was a Compact C- Sine and that the new production will be with SDS Motors? ¿Or definitely the information of Marklin. com web page is incorrect?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Julio,
Good question, I noticed it too. I guess earlier production 39800 have the compact C sine, later ones the SDS
If you are contemplating buying this model, ask the dealer which motor it has. The dealer will know (or not know) how to detect or discover this fact.
You may have to try some different dealers.

Compact C-Sine or SDS makes no difference if the motor driver board is up-to-date.
SDS implies current motor driver board.
My 39120 came w/o SDS sticker, but with a current driver board. It behaves exactly like the 39121 with SDS.
So ask your dealer if it has an SDS sticker on the box.
If not, ask your dealer if that loco doesn't have the problem with voltage sensitivity. Otherwise it'll have to be sent to Göppingen for a cure.

I have a E10 39121 which reported in another thread that has now adopted alarming Habits. SDS Sticker on the box.
Turn on the CS annd the E10 runs ok. BUT the MFX icon is blacked out. AS long as I run it the MFX remains black. everything works.
Go to edit the loc and get the message that it is not on the Track. Get out of there and go back to normal menu and now the MFX sign is normal, If go back to edit you can edit the loc.
Wierd.
Should it go back for a callup warranty claim update etc.

Well, after all the fuss finally, I rang the service desk and like some of you here, was told to send these back to the factory for repair. So off I went and packed my 39080 and 39010 and sent them off........Then my 39010 returned and I popped this on my layout and she runs beautifully.........expect when pushing f1 function (to activate the smoke unit 7226) the loco comes to a complete holt...nothing just flushing lights and no movement..... deactivate F1 and all is well....does anyone know what this might be???.... the 7226 smoke unit was working fine before I sent it away. No sign of the 39080...yet...

I had the same problem today, but my 39010 hasn't been upgraded yet.
When i put in the 7226, same problem as you have, but when I put in the digital version smoke unit(sorry dont have number, but the base is green) all was well.
Also , could some one give me the number for the service desk and/or the e-mail address for the service department.I would like to contact them first, it seems strange to send something with out knowing they expect it.

Hi again
Last wednesday I delivered my models for the Soft Drive upgrade at Märklin
They told me that it probably would take about 4 to 5 weeks until I get them back. They send it in the mail
Very nice service from the Märklin employed man at the desk. Very informative. Maybe because it was so early [:p]

The story of my 39080 :
Out from South of France : June 9
Back from Goëppingen : July 4
Received with some apology, and a statement that the loc is set at the "new quality standard".
As usual, all perfect. [:p]

Hi Marc,
everything's forgiven (incl. "Gôppingen" in your last post
- the good intention counts and at least there was some decoration on the "o").
Too many characters in the world - no easy way to manage them all with the 105 (or even 104) keys of a standard Windows PC.

You will not be disappointed by Hag. BTW TEE-USA has some models on sale with lower prices than advertised in Switzerland. Look under Sale on the website.
I am considering the new release Re 450 and doubledeck coaches with the red doors.
A normal Hag runs as well as any Maerklin C-Sine lok.
As to the C-Sine issue. I have a 39420. At slow speed, there is no stutter, but you can hear a shaking in the couplings and bogies of trailing coaches. Is this the problem that you are referring to?
Will they upgrade to SDS or just alter the settings?

Hi Mike,hi Ron,
I agree with most of what you say about HAG locos, although there's one possible exemption namely the Ae 4/7 which may cause shorts on slim C-track turnouts, due to its very large final drive gears making contact with the centre rail.
The 39420 is one of the locos that can be upgraded with new electronics. The motor remains as it is.A couple of weeks ago Lutz posted information on this in a topic.
I have both the 39420 and the 39421. The 39421 drives very smoothly and doesn't show the behaviour you described.
(
As a side note; I still haven't decided whether to have my 39420 upgraded or not.
)
There's one thing about the Re 4/4I ( both the 39420 and the 39421) that is a bit worrying and it concerns its behaviour on slim K-track turnouts. Due to the very small clearance between the locos body and the centre rail, the slider doesn't have enough space to move upwards when passing the rather high pukos of the slim K turnouts.
So when the loco drives over the turnout, the slider lifts the whole loco which causes the loco to lose grip.
With ample speed this isn't too much of a problem, however if it drives slowly-which by the way it's very good at-the loco may get stuck on the slim turnout.
Kind regards
Guus

My 39010 just slows down a bit (maybe 10% - 15%) when activating F1 to turn the smoke unit on. The loco still runs OK, but it is a little bit more sensitive to dirty track than, say, my 39640 BR64 is. My 39010 is about 9 -10 months old.

Just off the phone with Märklin repair service
They speak very good English and are very nice in the phone
Now 3 of my locomotive's (39010, 39080, 39800) are finished with the SDS upgrade and will be shipped to me in the next few days [:p]
The models 39680 E18 and 39619 Br.61 is still waiting for parts [:(]

Hi,
I have a 39800 recently purchased.
It does not have SDS sticker on the box.
It runs perfectly well.
There is no need for me to worry about upgrade is there?
regards
Kimball

Got my compact C-sines back today, and they turned into SDS
The Taurus MWB(39834), the Taurus Porsche (39835) and the BR 290 (37900) were brought in mid march. The dealer sent them to the Dutch repair center. And they were instructed some time ago to send them to Göppingen. Today I got them back. Didn't cost anything. First tests show they run like a dream now - also on the brake modules. Too bad it took nearly 6 months, but anyway: great upgrade.

Hello, Peter,
was the sound of the MWB loco updated?

Thomas, I don't know. It has a lot of sounds, and I must confess I did not hear most of them until today, because I used a 6021 before. My current CS has lots of problems, but the function buttons work ok, so I did use all those sound buttons today briefly.
What should have been sound-updated?

Hi, Lutz,
does the MWB loco sound like the Porsche Taurus (playing scales while accelerating) or does it still sound like before?
I know that the decoder was updated, but was the sound file also updated?
@Peter:
You only have to turn on the operating sound to hear the scales while accelerating.
I didn't send my locos away for upgrade yet; my 39835 plays scales, but 39834 doesn't.
Regards
Tom

Has anyone in the US or Canada done anything with their compact c-since locomotives such as return them to Germany?
US dealers I have spoken to seem not to know anything about this.
I have not done anything and wonder if I will regret my inaction later on.

Tom,
I ran them again today. Did not want to do it last night, I was scared to wake the neighbours...
Anyway: if you are talking about the funny sounds the Taurus Porsche makes when it starts running: the Taurus MWB does not do that. Once running, both make a rather monotonous sound, with a bit higher tone at higher speed. They are not exactly the same though.
Both of them running around with sound on makes quite a noise, personally I prefer the almost total silence when running them without sounds
. The slider is the noisiest bit...
I did not do the upgrade for sounds, I did it for running characteristics. Those are great now, like every SDS-loc [^].
Cheers,
Peter

Very good to hear, Pål! Yes, both the repair and spare parts service are usually really friendly; doubtless anyways their competency.
No surprise about #39619 since the Insider HWZ (#26610) upgrade is as well still pending.
I was very suprised as the models arrived today already
Very nice and fast service from Märklin, I'm a happy man today [:p]

My 39080 VT08 and 39980 Scheinenbus returned to me this morning from Marklin Repair Service. I can't wait to get home tonight to run them! Pretty good service considering they crossed the Atlantic twice in the process.

Been running them for about an hour now. I said before that I was not unhappy with their performance but felt it could be better. It is MUCH better. They run so smooth and steady now at all speeds, I am very glad I sent them in for upgrade. Great job, Maerklin! And the price was right! ("Gratis" on the invoice)

I can tell you some good news - your VT08 can be upgraded now, the HWZ in about two weeks from now (so, we can have a rally who gets his back when
); same is true for the V200 models. E18 is still pending.
...
I've received my VT08.5 and the 39010. But I'm still waiting for my HWZ and the 39420. According to my German dealer it won't happen until sometime during the fall. Have anyone received an upgraded HWZ yet? Or does somebody have a more exact date?

My VT08 ran great for about two hours, then stopped running. The lights and sound still worked for a while, then they stopped and I noted a definite burning odor from the motor unit. Guess it will have to get ready to travel again! [:(]

Is that bickering?
I'm not fully satisfied with the reliability of mfx decoders, but so far no M* motor failed at my place.
