I am interested in buying this model, but there is contradictory information about the type of motor it carries. In Marklin.com the motor is described as an SDS one, but in the other web pages (including maerklin.de), it says that it is a Compact C-Sine motor. ¿Does it means that the original motor was a Compact C- Sine and that the new production will be with SDS Motors? ¿Or definitely the information of Marklin. com web page is incorrect? I guess earlier production 39800 have the compact C sine, later ones the SDS If you are contemplating buying this model, ask the dealer which motor it has. The dealer will know (or not know) how to detect or discover this fact. You may have to try some different dealers. regards Kimball

Turn on the CS annd the E10 runs ok. BUT the MFX icon is blacked out. AS long as I run it the MFX remains black. everything works. Go to edit the loc and get the message that it is not on the Track. Get out of there and go back to normal menu and now the MFX sign is normal, If go back to edit you can edit the loc. Wierd. Should it go back for a callup warranty claim update etc. Nev

So off I went and packed my 39080 and 39010 and sent them off........Then my 39010 returned and I popped this on my layout and she runs beautifully.........expect when pushing f1 function (to activate the smoke unit 7226) the loco comes to a complete holt...nothing just flushing lights and no movement..... deactivate F1 and all is well....does anyone know what this might be???.... the 7226 smoke unit was working fine before I sent it away. No sign of the 39080...yet...

They send it in the mail Very nice service from the Märklin employed man at the desk. Very informative. Maybe because it was so early [:p]

Regards Mike C Hi Mike,hi Ron, I agree with most of what you say about HAG locos,although there's one possible exemption namely the Ae 4/7 which may cause shorts on slim C-track turnouts,due to its very large final drive gears making contact with the centre rail. The 39420 is one of the locos that can be upgraded with new electronics. The motor remains as it is.A couple of weeks ago Lutz posted information on this in a topic. I have both the 39420 and the 39421. The 39421 drives very smoothly and doesn't show the behaviour you described. (As a side note; I still haven't decided whether to have my 39420 upgraded or not.) There's one thing about the Re 4/4I ( both the 39420 and the 39421) that is a bit worrying and it concerns its behaviour on slim K-track turnouts. Due to the very small clearance between the locos body and the centre rail,the slider doesn't have enough space to move upwards when passing the rather high pukos of the slim K turnouts. So when the loco drives over the turnout,the slider lifts the whole loco which causes the loco to lose grip. With ample speed this isn't too much of a problem, however if it drives slowly-which by the way it's very good at-the loco may get stuck on the slim turnout. Kind regards Guus

The loco still runs OK, but it is a little bit more sensitive to dirty track than, say, my 39640 BR64 is. My 39010 is about 9 -10 months old.

The dealer sent them to the Dutch repair center. And they were instructed some time ago to send them to Göppingen. Today I got them back. Didn't cost anything. First tests show they run like a dream now - also on the brake modules. Too bad it took nearly 6 months, but anyway: great upgrade. Peter

My current CS has lots of problems, but the function buttons work ok, so I did use all those sound buttons today briefly. What should have been sound-updated? Peter

I know that the decoder was updated, but was the sound file also updated? @Peter: You only have to turn on the operating sound to hear the scales while accelerating. I didn't send my locos away for upgrade yet; my 39835 plays scales, but 39834 doesn't.

US dealers I have spoken to seem not to know anything about this. I have not done anything and wonder if I will regret my inaction later on.

Anyway: if you are talking about the funny sounds the Taurus Porsche makes when it starts running: the Taurus MWB does not do that. Once running, both make a rather monotonous sound, with a bit higher tone at higher speed. They are not exactly the same though. Both of them running around with sound on makes quite a noise, personally I prefer the almost total silence when running them without sounds . The slider is the noisiest bit... I did not do the upgrade for sounds, I did it for running characteristics. Those are great now, like every SDS-loc [^]. Cheers, Peter

I said before that I was not unhappy with their performance but felt it could be better. It is MUCH better. They run so smooth and steady now at all speeds, I am very glad I sent them in for upgrade. Great job, Maerklin! And the price was right! ("Gratis" on the invoice)

The lights and sound still worked for a while,then they stopped and I noted a definite burning odor from the motor unit. Guess it will have to get ready to travel again! [:(]
