Does anyone know where I can find information on building Marklin decoders on my own? I've found some stuff at:

Hi Dandrikop, welcome to the forum. If you check out the 'links and downloads' section of this forum you will see many useful links to other Marklin related sites. One in particular is 'Dr König's digital site' (http://home.arcor.de/dr.koenig/digital/ehomepag.htm) which has lots of info re digital decoders, including building your own. I don't think it has been updated for a few years, and when I looked at the site with a view to building my own decoders, I found that the Motorola chips that are required are pretty much obsolete.

Anyway feel free to look, and I hope it helps you in what you are trying to acheive. Some of the other links may help as well.

It made some sense in the early days of Digital MRR to make your own decoders from available parts. Now with cheaper decoders available it seems like a bad deal - if it is even possible to find the needed parts...

I know Konig's site; I actually found there the second link I sent. I'm trying to build by own decoder, as these that are available through Marklin are pretty expensive, as all their products are (at least for Greek people). I've also found the following, but it doesn't say much:

You can get ESU lokpilot decoders for around 20 Euro, which is much cheaper than Marklin, and will certainly work better than anything I could build myself, even if I could get the parts.

Try Lokshop, they often have special offers on lokpilot decoders.

Another link to a DIY decoder: http://www.frederiksson.dk/indexeng.html

But I agree with the previous posts: building your own loco decoder makes very little sense nowadays. The cost when making them yourself will be rather high anyway in small series, and I think it will be very difficult to make them work as well at the ready-made ones.

I think it can still make sense building your own function decoders however. They are much simpler than the loco decoders.
