For those who like to look at pictures, I have just posted a lot of new pictures on my home page. These document the progress I have made during February (signals) and March (landscaping). Take a look and have fun.

It's really beautiful, kimmo. I like how you made C track blend in well with the ballast and landscape. Great job and thank you for sharing the photos.

I know that it is silly to open a new thread for this, as pretty much the same individuals will give the same polite comments as before. But it is the easiest way to let everyone know that the site has been updated.

Opening a new thread to share your project with us is not silly!! [:p]
Come on Kimmo!!!

Have you seen my layout picture with the cows on the Faller Brewery thread? That's silly man![:I]

Playing with little cows and being proud of it, is definitely silly... (That's a nice idea for another thread).biggrin

Thanos,

I have followed your brewery thread closely, and I admire the carefulness in which you do everything, and how much effort you put into it. You are a real modeller, far more than what I am doing. And regarding the cows, I am also planning to buy couple of cows and other farm animals to liven up the scenery around the forest house. They look really nice in the picture which you posted in the brewery thread. Keep it going, man!!

Kimmo: Definitely not silly. It is great to share techniques since everyone has a different approach to contouring and scenery development. Pictures like yours are very helpful to those of us that are still trying new techniques.

I would add that I don't feel we're offering just "polite" comments. Only other modelers know how difficult and time-consuming layout work is, and my comments to you are heartfelt and appreciative, not only for your nice work, but taking care to put up a site and share with us. Your work is a help to all of us. Thank you!

I have finished the "North Valley" portion of my layout. This was my first effort in detailed scenery development (my previous interest has been in track laying and operation). I think it came out pretty well. Any suggestions? Here is a sample.

Hi Ron, it looks very nice, only the road seems to have been hitted by a grade 10 earthquakebiggrinbiggrin
(When i post some pictures of my lanscaping you will certainly make such comments to me, so please don't get the comment in a bad way).

BTW: The railroad tunnel (the important part, since we are here to play , sorry, operate trains) looks really really nice.

I know about the road. It's actually worse than it looks (proper positioning of the camera can do wonders). I tried to do it free form in plaster and couldn't get it just right. Maybe someday I'll tear that out and redo it. In the future, I will form the roads in wood and plaster around them. It was an interesting learning experience, though.

I noticed that my site is getting unwieldy. When I can take a few moments away from the layout, I'll reorganize it then maybe I'll post it in the Links and Downloads section. Smile

Great work Ron!

That K-track which is almost burried in the scenery material looks pretty good. Was it difficult to keep the studds and rails clean for good electrical contact?

Kimmo:
No. Just did a lot of brushing with a narrow paint brush before I applied the scenery glue. I noticed in my pictures that I need to run some material further into the tunnels. Funny how things like that stand out in pictures that you don't see live.

Great work Ron! I think I will be able to post some layout pictures as well this weekend.
Now about the earthquake road - just kidding! biggrin.
For my roads I haven't used any ready made road by Faller or Busch or Noch, as they look awful after some exposure to dust.
I have originally used the Faller 170654 dark-grey landscape compound but it was not as good as I expected. Very messy when the sandpaper came into action. A lot of dust... [xx(]
So I decided to paint over the dried compound. I used blue, white and some black to get the road color. It came out very nice and I really like it.

Hi Ron

I had a look at your site. Very nice work you are doing. Great pictures.

Just one question about the catenary for the hidden parts of the layout: instead of the Noch (or Viessman?) system, wouldn't be enough to progressively raise the catenary wire as you go inside a tunnel? So that the loko would travel inside the tunnel most of the time with the pantographs raised and then at the way out there would be a symmetric descending wire. See what I mean? Do you think it could work just like that?

Cheers,

Nuno Smile

Nuno:

I use the catenary wires for power on all my e-loks. BTW that is the system sold by Noch, but I have seen identical items from other manufacturers. Anyone know who REALLY makes it?
