Joined: 15/02/2004(UTC) Posts: 1,591 Location: Pennsylvania		The ETE Euro-East show in Marietta, PA is coming up again, Aug. 11 and 12th. Marietta is just a short drive south of Harrisburg, PA, not far from 3-Mile Island power plant, which is kind of interesting to see (driving by) in itself. Looks like they are trying to have more. Doesn't look like too many vendors yet, maybe a few more will setup. I will be able to go now, on Saturday as that looks like the better of the two days to go. http://www.euroeastonline.com/ maybe its nowhere near as good as the stuff in germany, but for those of us who can't make those trips, this will have to do as the next best thing for marklin fans (and european prototypes). I think they are trying, and with more support they will get more vendors showing up in future shows. good chance to buy a bushel of fresh chambersburg peaches too (the best there are).

Joined: 14/11/2003(UTC) Posts: 1,443 Location: Northeast Ohio		I went to ETE EuroEast 2 years ago and picked up the Maerklin VT 11.5 from Jan Eisen and some great videos of German and Swiss trains and routes. It was great for HO railroaders into European and Maerklin trains but, of course, don't expect anything like the size of a large NMRA train show. There were also knowledgeable and well-know individuals conducting clinics. They also had a nice Bemo HOm display as well. The area is beautiful and, if coming from the west, you can also make a detour to the great Horseshoe curve to see massive US freight trains.

It is a huge event and takes over the entire town center. Her cousin has a booth there, so when she is done looking (and spending) she is just going to hang out with her cousin until I return. I should be at Marietta late morning.

More vendors, more layouts...(at least it seemed to me, I didn't count them) Attended a seminar by Jeff from Marklin. Nothing really new, except that he said Marklin will start a program to replace the compact csine motors with the new SDS. It must be done by Marklin, however. I hadn't heard of this, but I may have missed it somewhere. I plan to send in my VT08 whenever they get this program going. He also said that they have only received a few upgrade kits, so don't expect an action on that on this side of the pond until at least next month. Robert Froenfeld did a seminar on digital conversions. Although I have converted over 40 loks myself, I found it interesting and informative. Met up with Mario and Jon. Great to put faces with names. Enjoyed meeting you bpth.

Got to meet Ron S, but missed meeting Mario (where was your nametag?). I scored on a nice #2857 set from RJF. Price not bad. also got some other cars (1 roco giant DB hopper car and a sachsenmodell PKP tanker). the modular layouts were nice. credit must be given to the new england guys for hauling their stuff all the way down to central PA. the keystone ETE modules are lookign better all the time.

Sorry I missed it and meeting, but it is a 6 hour drive and I've been traveling too much lately as it is, plus someone I live with had other ideas for me to take care of today (chores). Was there a large Bemo HOm Swiss layout? Saw that one year and really liked it, but nothing would run. Oddly enough, 2 years ago I was probably more thrilled about all the DVDs (and the extra cars for the VT11.5) I picked up from a vendor there at reasonable rates. Also, bought a bunch of Faller HO already built. So, what is the problem with C-Sine? I must live in a bubble since I'm usually the last to know. I probably have more of my locos with that type of motor than others. I sometimes think Maerklin is too high on the technology curve and should wait until things are better perfected and run-in. How do I find out if it has C-Sine? Is there any easy way? Thanks.

Joined: 15/02/2004(UTC) Posts: 1,591 Location: Pennsylvania		only two modules of the ETE with a track of bemo running on it (cog incline). an odd thing I saw when I got there - about 1/2 hour after opening was a table full of someone selling new vollmer kits. not 30 minutes later or so, they were packing everything on it up, and never saw them after. maybe they thought they could set up for free? maybe the boxes of kits (they had a lot) "fell off the back of a truck" in new jersey? it was odd.

I got myself a nice SBB roter pfeil (3125) and a Br 194 (3322) which was digitalized (but a very old version)from RJF. He had a nice set of used locomotives with interesting prices (definetively worth looking at). Most of the other vendors were, in my opinion, charging to much. I saw a new 37522 De 6/6 and the askingg price was 450 $ which, altough in line with M* published price of 309 Euros, is way too much compared to buying on-line in Germany. This loco is out of production but, I believe, very soon M* will come out with all these models with Mfx and/or softdrive-sinus motors (like i think its going to happen to the roter pfeil very soon!) I will post some pics of my new additions soon and also need advice on upgrading the roter pfeil with a maxon/faulhaber motor and a LokShop decoder (my next project ). I did enjoy the show.. I definetively will be back next year and .. in the meantime.. I signed up as a member of the ETE.

Our township just successfully killed a development plan on the farm next to me. I still have two cornfields and a dairy farm surrounding me, and would like to keep it that way. One time I was in Florida and someone asked me where I was from. When I told him, he said "I'm sorry..what exit?" (Strains of John Pizzarelli Jr. singing "I like Jersey Best" playing in the background)

Easily could have walked away with more, but decided against spending any more money! I saw the guy leaving with all the Volmer stuff- was parked right next to him. Thought it funny that he was leaving so soon.... Sorry Mike- gotta agree about the Jersey comments - grew up there (just South of Trenton) and won't go back but to visit! Honestly, though, NJ has some awesome places! Brings back mucho sweet memories!

I grew up in North Philadelphia in a neighborhood called Nicetown (it's not so nice anymore). I had to go down there a few months ago to a bidders conference on a job with SEPTA (Southeast Pennsylvania Transit Authority) and drove through my old neighborhood. Like a wasteland. Anyway, I didn't get the contract with SEPTA, but it was an itneresting trip.

(Uncle Floyd was a local PBS comedy(?) show that you have to live in or around Jersey to understand. It was canceled over 10 years ago, I believe.)

For those of you familiar with the NJ Shore- have you seen the latest news stories about the Army C.O.E. asking the city of Surf City to help clean up buried ordinance on the beaches? Priceless! Can't count the number of times I've been to LBI / Seaside Heights. Oddly enough, never been to Cape May...! I seem to recall time spent in the company of LBI's finest after a night of spirited partying....! No worries- did not break any rules/laws... was merely getting a ride back to the rental after getting jumped by some punks! Back to the train show- I am now looking forward to going to the MEA show in Bethlehem in October. Gentleman at the ETE show said the MEA show has more Marklin items available, which is one reason why I went to the ETE show in the first place. Sorry for not meeting up with anybody- wasn't there long, had to get back soon and wasn't feeling particularly well (still sick for that matter!)....

I may try again...maybe I'll see you in Bethlehem, then. For general MRR, some Marklin but not much, you may consider going to the First Frost show in Allentown in November. Big show, lots of vendors, lots of people. There were a few purveyors of European stuff there last year, but a great place to pick up general MRR stuff. I have an old S-gauge American Flyer set I had messed up in my youth by painting over the American Flyer name and logo on the tender. I got a set of replacement decals for it last year at the show and restored my S gauge Pacific to it's original condition after many years.

Here is a shot of the "guts" of the loco. I will ask (under a separate thread) what to do to upgrade to faulhaber/maxon motor. 3322 Br 194 The previous owner up-graded this loco to Digital (with a old 6090). I already ordered the 60924 kit to upgrade to 5* + mfx.
