Check this curiosity:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws...fvi%3D1#ebayphotohosting

During WWII, there was a portuguese artisan company called Vacminel copying Märklin stuff, actually having the distinction of being the sole active european model railroad manufacturer.

The legend goes that after the war he visited Märklin and showed them his stuff. They said they actually liked the models and thanked him for keeping the flame alive, with the same level of quality, during those dark years, and that they wouldn't sue him.

This info is from a portuguese MRR Yahoo forum.

I've seen SK800 by Vacminel in other colours. In fact I've never seen this scheme before.

Despite having mock CP markings, nothing vaguely similar ever rode portuguese rail, this being a plain fantasy set.

If I had the money for collector's stuff, I would buy this, no doubt!

It would be lovely to have this set.... but surely this is not from the 1940's? The engine looks a much later model.

Well, if it is a true Vacminel, it has to be from the 40's. The guy only did them during that period.

Wether it has been repainted, restored, etc, no idea.

The set offered here on ebay is a ritter replica.
The story as you tell it isn't entirely true. Mr Saraiva who constructed the models (They weren't SK800!) was afraid marklin would sue him so he destroyed all the moulds after the war.
