Thanks Tom. ThumpUp There's a reason why I asked for that locomotive - I've managed to score myself one! Should be here in about 10 to 12 days!

Your photo also fulfills another request I had in mind - a picture of some container trains!

I've got the VT08 railcar, but not one with the typo (but it is of the same model number), so someone else will have to give us a picture.

The typo on the VT 08.5 is famous, the typo on the Hertha loco is less famous.
Other candidates are one coach from 42811, the RAG loco 37656, 3422 (BR 194), 3680 (BR 323)
Regards
Tom

It's more than 24 hours since Tom posted (well maybe 1/2 an hour short, but I'm not going to wait up until the 24 hrs is up), so I'm posting a picture of my 39081 VT08 which doesn't have the 'typo' error.

I'd like to see picture(s) of member's first Marklin items they ever had, along with a brief description of what it means to them.

Here’s a CM-800 (AKA 3000) BR 89-005 from the 1950’s. Bought new in Munich by my Grandfather for my Father then handed down to me. Two front headlight bulbs, plastic body, and analog SFCM motor. Still in perfect running condition!

It was the first “hook” that started me in this obsessive hobby. It will pass down to my son. FWIW I've edited my original post to add a display photo of the loco with rolling stock of similar vintage. They were all part of the "hook". This was a very fine request, Bigdaddy. Thanks

I give my turn for a request to the next poster.

Regards -- Richard

Ok, I'll jump in then...
Here's my first loco, an RSM 800, anno 1950.
Must have run literally hundreds of km...
A witness to the quality of Märklin production of the era. Perfect durability even though this was at the time the entry level offering.
Now if you ask why the "vandal" part in my signature... here's why: this engine has suffered an incredible amount of abuse!
First it was tested to see at what speed it would jump off the tracks.
Witness is a little gash in the roofline as it flew off teh table and landed on the flor one day.
Then it was "endurance tested" running days on end, without interruption.
The trafo died (280A model) but the loco did not!
Then it was basically the test piece for all my unfortunate attempts to understand "how does it work? " and "how do I fix it?"

It received a thorough refit in the 1980's when I finally had acquired **some** skills on how to do it the right way.
Still runs impeccably.

Yes Mehmet, it is still analog!

To me , an irreplaceable and priceless piece of my life...

Oh yes...almost forgot: I'd like to see a picture of an SNCB streamlined Type 12 steam engine

Sorry for intruding without a picture, BUT, what Dave requested (your first loco) could be the start of a very interesting topic on its' own - unless off course it all ready has been started previously (and I was too lazy to checkBlushing )

Anyone want's to start?

Thank you Yumgui - it was the result of one of my few forays into eBay that added this set to my collection. The set goes to the heart of my fascination with the Federal Republic of Germany in Era 3 and the 'Wirtschaftwunder'. I appreciate any information on this model that is out there.

Token,

Thanks for that TGV proto, never saw it before ^^ !

Now, see here a very interesting article on the Franco-Crosti boiler system (BR 42.90 DB) : http://www.aqpl43.dsl.pi...ocrosti/francocrosti.htm

Made for Belgium, Italy, Ireland, Britain and Germany ...

Are these the two locos you're looking for ... ? :

... also, check out a concept version for Russia, WOW : http://www.aqpl43.dsl.pi...O/francocrosti/bfc8b.gif

... if so, I'd like to see prototype pix of models which Märklin never made, and really wish they did : Heisler, Shay (2 or 3 truck), Garrett, Cab Forward, Camelback ...

Could not find the matching coaches though. Anyone else?

If not - I'll claim the time lapse and ask if anyone can find a colour photo, to prove the historical accuracy of the black paint scheme for the BR 05 001 as depicted in Maerklin model 37051?

I was going to make a joke about steamer's photos but I'd better don't. Instead here you have one taken near Lithgow, ZigZaq railway around 1991. Sorry about the quality but I didn't have a digital file. Australia of course. I want to see a photo of the real train the 3070 is based on.

Seems like Token was right on the 24Hr timing to ask for the Black BR 05 (don't be a hog now BD ^^ ;) ... so here are some pix on the fascinating BR 05 subject :

05 001 - Speed record over 200 km/hr, and later scrapped (boh!) ... in black and white livery (probably doesn't count) ;P

UserPostedImage

05 002 - Red and located in the DB Museum in Nuremberg

UserPostedImage

I always thought that the BR 05 was built in two protos, the 001 and 002 ... but read on some forum recently that 3 were built ??? Anybody have authoritative info on that ?

...

Now, for a steam loco I've seen recently, here is a 141-TC-701 SNCF at 1/5 scale being restored in the Pras model workshop in Paris ...
Made by 14 to 18 year olds learning the craft in 1929, it is part of the permanent exhibit of the Museum in Epernay (check out the 1/5 scale tool kit they built !).
While it was built as a steam loco, it is now converted to pneumatic drive for Museum purposes ... :

As for the following request , and to try once again to get this show on a regular rhythm, I'll go with The NOT Crazy One ^^ ;)
"I want to see a photo of the real train the 3070 is based on ..."

Y Cool

PS: Per, as you know, the response is posted before all photos are uploaded .. and so it goes, patience is of the essence ^^ ;)

A black and white photo, most likely showing the loco in its early, red livery.

There were three locos: 05 001 and 05 002 were very similar, only details were different. 05 003 was Germany's only cab-forward steamer. Märklin made models of all three.

No, they were E 03 in era III, 103 in era IV - and the one on my picture became E 03 again in era V when it was prepared as a museum loco.
The Märklin set 37574 includes an era IV version of a prototype loco labelled as 103.

Thanks BD, I think you are right. Could not find anything about it and as an aside, I would love it if someone could let me know on what basis Maerklin produced the black colour scheme as opposed to the red. Any ideas out there?

On the subject of NZR, I quite enjoyed a ride on this one.....

NZR J class

...and how about the only one of these left in the world....

NZR H199

...anyone (outside NZ hazard a guess what the second regulator is for (below)?

Token.

There was a thread sometime ago discussing the colour, nobody could come up with undisputable evidence because photos were black and white. It wouldn't be the first time Marklin issues a non existent colour. Isn't the latest black croc one of them?

I visited the Fell Museum in Featherston in March this year and I posted some photos somewhere on the forum.

I suppose this is a black BR05 (de-streamlined)...

UserPostedImage

Will it pass as a valid entry???
If it does, I'd like to see a prototype BR52 with the stiff frame tender (not the bathtub one...).

The BR05 001 (streamlined) looks black in pics, but the wasteline is blacker than the rest of the body...

Just to clarify, I'd like to see a prototype picture of a single one of them - not a yard full of them... Wink

Will this do, Juhan?

I'd like to see a photo of a prototype of the Br89 (Like Marklin's 3000)
Ray
Mostly Marklin.Selection of different eras and European railways
Small C track layout, control by MS2, 100+ trains but run 4-5 at a time.

Locos labelled 052 or 053 are definitely class 50. By 1968 DB had gotten rid of all BR 52 locos and 050 through 053 were all class 50 locos.
Only your first picture qualifies as Steifrahmentender (tender 4 T 30, stiff frame, no trucks).
Regards
Tom

How's this Ray!

BTW, there were 10 prototypes built, and over 5 million Marklin models.

I'd like to see a coloured picture of the streamlined BR 06 prototype.

Not colour, I know but I would love Maerklin to produce one of these! All I have to do is work out how to fit era II loco's into my era III layout.

BR 06

Oh well, I guess people might not notice....BigGrin
