does anyone happened to these low cost marklin locos?

An outsider.
I'm looking for the owner of that horse. He's tall, blonde, he smokes a cigar, and he's a pig!

Hi Alonso,
PRIMEX was established in 1969 to supply cheaper and often simplified Märklin products outside the official Märklin dealer market, e.g., to department stores.

In 1991 or 1992, this has been replaced by the Märklin Hobby product line, probably to take advantage of the Märklin brand name when marketing these products. So, the same type of stuff is still available!

In your Märklin catalog, you may find Hobby locs such as the 3000, 3003, 3078, as well as Hobby waggons.

When entering the second-hand market, one should notice that some products have been changed to Hobby (and simplified) during their life-span, while keeping the same product number.

You may notice that once in a while Märklin releases a loco under the Primex brand name. Some year ago it was the 33005, a slighty updated re-release of the old 3005, and a few years ago the good old 3003 was released as Primex model in photo-grey. They have to release a product with the Primex brand name once in a while to keep the rights for that brand name.
To say that Primex was replaced with the "hobby line" is not totally correct since the "hobby line" also contains items that were regular items back in the 60:s, so the "hobby line" basically means older models not up to date with todays standards of detail etc... Märklin also had another line with simplified models called "Antex" long ago...

Of course, the webmaster is right <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>. My comments were slightly simplified.
Has Antex been marketed in other countries than The Netherlands? I've only heard of one loc (a two-axle Nebenbahnlok based on the Mä 3029) and 'Rungenwagen' made by Antex, which were on the market exactly in my previous Märklin enthousiast's life, 1964-1972.

In those years, there also was Minex....

For those who have no clue - Between 1970-1972 the Minex was a narrow-gauge line in 1:45 scale with in total 2 loks and 8 wagons that ran on H0 tracks. Kind of like the Fleischmann "Magic Train"...
Minex was also a name in 1939-40 for a half-size "Märklin Metall" metal kits ("same" as Meccano)... The Minex line was then half the size of "Meccano" and was made of aluminium. (as described in the Koll's catalog).

Actually, there is an article by Lars on the site where a 2-axled "3029" goes DCC... I believe this is really a Primex 3020...

Bart, my first Märklin passion was from 1963-71, so we must both be about the same age, or "grandpa's" as "alonso" would put it... <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

As far as I know, the 2-axle versions of the Primex 3020 had a hand switch rather than an electromechanical switch for change of direction.
I first thought that Lars' model, clearly having an electromechanical switch, might even be an Antex 3029, but since it has some text on the cabin, it's probably a late Märklin 3029 from one of the sets such as 2915.
See two old men fighting over 30 years-old toys, whereas the owner probably knows all! <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>
Anyway, the conversion article is a perfect illustration of the Primex-like stuff, and how in can be given a new life.

this '3029' still puzzles me.
My memory says that in Koll's it's best described as the Antex; I have two of them as you can see, similair, but different number of latern imitations, and one with silver in them. I also have/had one set of the cheap cars with them, which clearly points in the direction of Antex. And I've noticed also on local auctions on the web other models of the like. So I suspect that the so called Benelux Antex also had some connection with Sweden. It might be of course that they were purchased during travel. You say Primex Juhan, well, I'll have to check with Kolls again.

Well, there are differences between Hobby and Primex:

Primex was sold as a separate brand. It was meant as a toy ... locos were stripped down. 3-axle diesels had only 2 axels in Primex version. The relay was replaced by a machanical lever underneath the loco. The trafo had no reversing capacity.

Hobby consists of "old" Märklin models. Usually they have no Delta or Digital capacity (with some exceptions) and Relex couplers are used instead of close couplers. But there are no problems combining Hobby equipment with the rest of Märklin items, because it is still a part of the Märklin brand.

By the way, I'm not old enough to remember Primex - I started with the S-set in mid-70ths. Got back on track recently and went for Märklin again with a new starters set.
