My interface 6050 seems to be death.
Marklin reseller can give any warranty on the time and the cost of reparation.A new unit is expensive.
So as I've knowledge in electronics I'd like to repair it myself.
My big problem is how to open this box without exploding it ?
Any documentation about this interface is also welcome.
Thanks for your help

The most common tip on mailing lists on how to open Märklin digital boxes:

There are 4 "plugs" that hold the box together, 2 on each side.

1 - Drill small diameter holes (1mm or so) into the 4 "plugs". The hole should a couple of mm deep, enough to fit a thin screw.

2 - Put a thin screw, like eg a Märklin track screw into the hole

3 - Pull the screw & plug out with a pair of pliers.

The plugs can be reused when putting it all together again.

A schematic of the internals of the 6050 was published in part 2 of Rutger Friberg's well known series about electronics for the model railroad. You can read about this book series at http://www.hobby.se/Rutger/Rutger.html .

Thanks for your answer

The plugs you are talking about are the four plugs on the top cover. Am I right ?

I've found a schematic of 6150 at the following URL: http://www.bogobit.de/decoder/

Plugs are on the same *sides* where the contacts are, about the same whitish color as the box itself. At least on my 6051...

Ok, the box is now open I've checked the serial (RD) signal.
The signal goes to the microcontroller.

So, what is need to go further with my diagnostic is information about the micro controller. The microcontroller in my device is from Philips (MAB 8420P C052). Datasheets are welcome !
Information about data transfert between interface and central unit will be also usefull

I've also read that "Some early 6050:s might be different, due to firmware bugs". Can someone explain what are theses differences ?

I'm searching a free basic software (for windows) to test the interface.

I've tried to communicate using guardian. The interface windows indicates that interface is online for sending, but offline for receiving ? Is that behaviour normal ?

Thanks for answering one or more questions !

I seem to recall (not 100% sure) that the earliest 6050:s needed 2 stop bits in the communication parameter setup. I also have vague rememberance that the RTS/CTS handshaking was not perfect, and you needed to insert programmed delays of about 80ms between commands sent from the computer. If anyone out there can confirm or correct my vague memory, please do.

You also need the cable to be correctly wired...

Have you looked at our article on 6051? It's in the "Digital corner" -> "Digital Info" section.. The 6051 is a repackaged 6050, at least mine has a 6050 sticker at the bottom...

The 6050/51 is normally only receiving bytes, and signals via the RTS/CTS handshaking if it is not ready to receive. A "not ready to receive" usually means that it has some requested s88 data ready for the PC to read, or that the 605x input buffer is full. The latter is what did not work perfectly in early 6050:s, according to my memory....

Test program? Download Railroad & Co TrainController at http://www.railroadandco.com . It will show you if the communication between PC and Interface is not working.... If not registered, it will give you 30 days of use, which should be enough to pinpoint any problems in the communication PC -> Interface.

May I ask you, have you had your 6050 working earlier, or is this the first time you try it?

My 6050 worked very well with my commodore 64 (I bought it the first year it was available). Few years ago, the interface worked with the PC but it seems that de bug that you described affect communication.
I'll be coming back to you after additional testing.
