Hello,

I have an old (from the 70's) Fleishmann Texaco Tanker and I would like to install Marklin couplers. Hopefully someone can give me part number to a compatible coupler, or one that can be modified to fit.

The car and couplers:

The coupler installed. There is a spring to right of red line than keeps coupler aligned:

The coupler has a slot in it.

Thanks!

Roco made some adapters for Fleischmann couplers, as did Fleischmann. Perhaps you could mount these on the adjacent coaches so that they could be coupled without having to modify the original FL couplers?

I thought one more picture might help. This is the fleishmann coupler next to a marklin close coupler. If I could get a marklin coupler with a wide enough shank I could cut and drill it:

The part you want is Fleischmann 6523: http://www.fleischmann.d...&query=&onlynew=

This will be a straight clip-on fit without needing to cut or modify anything.

I quite often use older Fleischmann rolling stock with the same fitting, or the earlier male pin fitting, and there is a range of Fleischmann or other couplers for such:
6509
6517
6520
6521
6523
6524

Hi folks,

I'm trying to convert an old Fleischmann 4280 locomotive to 3-rail (that's what I call a nightmare).

It has the old Fleischmann couplers, as shown in the picture:

Anybody knows which is exact replacement part number for standard couplers? I haven't found any info on the internet so far.

Fleischmann has released a more modern version but buffers and couplers are completely different, so parts are not interchangeable.

Many thanks for your help.

I think the 6523 is also the correct coupler for your loco, Brakepad.

That's just the ticket for the Fleischmann car I have, too. Is there a supplier in the USA?

Helpful as always, Ray. Many thanks, I'll try to check it out. Converting this one to 3-rail would be a small success...these locomotives are somewhat particular in terms of electrical isolation. But they run so well that nobody would tell that they are not Märklin's!

Bill, for a USA supplier you can find the coupler on http://www.reynaulds.com/search.aspx?term=6523

Brakepad, show us how to convert to three rail. I'm about to try the same with my old Fleischmann lok. I don't know anything about it except I bought it in the 1970s in Germany. If anyone can tell me what it is I'd appreciate it.

Hi,

I think your locomotive is a 1336 E44 model. This model is not manufactured anymore. There was an even older version (1335) but had different running number and body was less detailed. There was also a more modern version (4330) which was launched in the nineties. Main problem with these old Fleischmann locs is that one of the motor brushes is not isolated from the chassis and isolating it may be extremely difficult.

In my case, I'm still thinking if I replace the motor cover or if I try to modify it so the brush gets isolated. Modern versions are already modified so converting them to digital is much easier, but this SNCF 68000 is still an "old style" one.

Hello,

this is only a problem of the old Fleischmann locos, newer engines (of about the last ten years) are quite easy to handle. And for the older engines you can order engine shields with isolated brushes.

Thanks. I did some googling but could not find any exploded parts diagrams for 1336 or 4330. Are there online parts diagrams, like Marklin has? I did find a replacement parts list on Fleischmann.de, http://www.fleischmann.d...26636f7b24ee4931a4e9ea45 but I really need a picture to make sure I know what I've got and what I may need. I did find http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eB...em&item=110385315875 , would this help me with the conversion?

Back to original question, the parts (Fleischmann 6523) arrived and the old Fleischmann tanker is now running with Marklin style couplers. Everything installed just right and couplers look good and line up with other tankers. The new couplers do not have the little tab on top that keeps the couplers uncoupled. On the left is M couler and on the right is F coupler. Thanks for all the help.
