Thats a really cool set! I like how they included the railbus.

On the flip side; it worries me to see more and more uber expensive start sets, and less and less entry level stuff. The price on the sets seem to be a sum of their components. This is ok, but I think they should follow Bemo's model of taking high end product they have overstock/overproduction of and package them in a cheap starter set to move them. This makes everyone a winner.

Judging by my past few purchases there is no way kids can get into this stuff anymore. The $125 e loks and $15 freight cars are great, but there just isn't enough of that stuff in the catalogue. Where the hurt really comes in is track at $4 a piece (or more!) and $60 for motor/decoder sets...

More stuff has now appeared at the Kali-Lok website on the Neuheiten 2009 page, including product numbers and pre-order prices. Find it here:

http://www.kali-lok.de/s.../c97_Neuheiten-2009.html

Interesting also to note that some of the sets include an IR-controller, Looney Tunes (29610) being one of them.

Søren, I do think that this kind of wireless control was also included in 29411 "Circus Mondolino" Set (€90 at eBay) from last year.
check out http://maerklin-back-on-track.blogspot.com if you like to see how old Märklin locos are brought back into life! (in spanish by the moment)

I spotted that too, Steven. It looks much nicer than the old Br 74.

No doubt we'll get complaints that it has a plastic body, but this is not an issue for me as it's obviously intended as a starter model.

It does have a much better chassis and running gear than the old Marklin starter locos like the Br 89.

maybe marklin is finally catching up to what Roco has been doing? once roco determines the cost of the original tooling and development has been paid for, the price of the loco usually drops to a pretty reasonable and good for the consumer level.

marklin needs to do this with the price of track - C track is outrageously expensive. I don't think there's $2 US of raw materials and labor in a piece of standard length straight C track (probably more like 20 cents, tops). It would help children and parents stay interested in the hobby if they get a starter set and would be able to expand it a bit every year at an economical and reasonable cost/price.

PS: Stephen, your sentence about the BR41 isn't fully understandable (is it a question or a quote); as everyone could see, the "well known" BR41 is included in the anniversary starter set.

The rumour about a Marklin TGV Thalys in its renewed color scheme for 2009 is coming back...[:p] (from the middle of 2008 , we had this rumour on the web every 2 months...[}:)] )
If true, it will be probably a PBKA type ( paris-Brussels,Koln-Amsterdam). Quadricourant ( 4 types of electric feeding)
The color scheme has been recently renewed

There was some speculation about a new BR 41 from M* on Stummi's forum simply because M* shows pictures of a real DR 41 to promote one of the 150th anniversary events.
Speculation!

I don't expect a new BR 41 this year.
And it's very unlikely to see a new mould being introduced in a starter set.

The fact that we've seen BR 41 in starter sets for some time could mean that a new mould will come. Wait and see ...

Here is the real new Thalys , which is supposed to be the version Marklin could make ( no official info , not yet ).
New interior settings, new ergonomy, wifi installed, new external color scheme ,etc....
On this video , the example is a PBA TGV, while the one supposed to be done should be the PBKA ( PBKA is the "quadricourant" version ,4 pantographs , serving Koln in Germany ),

From what I've seen at Stummis, some presentations at dealers are to be made already this weekend. Maybe we'll have the first infos already at Saturday? But "my" dealer has his "Neuheiten-Schau 2009" on the 30 and 31, so I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

If they are making a Re 6/6, better make sure it has the right railings before you commit to buy one. Of course, I am sure that our Swabian friend will have the right parts to correct his model.

I wonder whether we can expect such a model. There are still a few Re 4/4 and Ae 6/6 variants that have not been marketed yet, such as:

Re 4/4III (11351-11370)
Re 420 Cargo (Blue/Red with normal railings and pantos)
Re 4/4III SOB (42-44)
Re 436 Crossrail

Ae 6/6 (Various logos)
Ae 6/6 (new wipers/railings), including Cargo (not 125 Gotthard)

There is also the matter of Re 4/4I variants

If there is a Re 6/6, please post photos from the Messe so that we can see the model and contact Maerklin where necessary to make changes before it's too late.

Regards

Mike C

Well the double E94 seems interesting, as well as the OBB trains. Do you think the E94 will be a new version or the old?

Too bad the Re6/6 comes in a Ep V collor scheme, I'd prefer the green version. I''ll wait for that one or go for the HAG.

OK, I see a few things that might interest me, but I would need to see pictures first.

The "Capitol" sounds interesting. New tooling of the BB9200?
