Yesterday I've bought the Thalys PBKA 37791 and I'm having no luck with adding this beautifull high speed train to my Mobile Station 2 (MS2); no 'MFX' is blinking on the display, also after having the train alone on a small set of rails. So I went to a friend of mine, who has a 'old' MS1, and suprise Confused, his display shows a blinking 'MFX' and the train is being recognized including all functions.

So I've tried the following:
1. recognize Loc. Result: a train is in a few times being recognized at address 20 with only 3 functions, but the Thalys doesn't react on either the speed nor the other functions;
2. looked if the train was in the database, this is not the case (as I did red in some post the train should not have to be registered since it's mfx);
3. adding the train manually with address 77 (the address as been given by the Marklin folder) but no reaction;
4. do a reset of the Loc. I can hear a click sound (of the motor?) but the display says: Time-out CV read/write;
5. total reset of the MS2 and repeating steps 1-4, but still no luck Crying .
Al the time the train was alone on the track.

Does somebody have also this experience with this train and the MS2? Did you know how to solve this? Or does somebody know that I only have to update my MS2 to version 1.83 and it will work?

Thanks if you can help,

aluppens

Data of the MS2:
SNR 33665
SW V1.3
HW V2.0
LDB V009 (10/2)
Can-Bus Master

Did you tried Thaly stand alone on the track?
With MS2 you can only use one trainset or a locomotiv to recognizing alone on the track.
I mean train stand alone on the layout.

Hi,

Welcome to the forum.

Do you have other mfx locos that work with your MS2?
Which type of track? Do you have radio interference suppressors somewhere in the layout?

To use address 77, you will have to disable mfx in the MS2 menu (I'm not sure if v 1.30 already supports this). All mfx locos will have to be registered again with their MM addresses.

mfx registration should work with version 1.30, but I think an upgrade to v 1.83 is worth a try.
Regards
Tom

He wrote it was alone on the track.

With mfx there can be several trains on the track during automatic registration.

Hi Anders,

I had it alone on the track and I've waited also for a few minutes each time to see if it would be recognized.

No, unfortunatally not. Yes in this way I could test if MFX was the issue.

Marklin C track. I've tested on a part with only straight tracks. I have no suppuressors of the kind they use in the US (also red that in a post on this forum)

I have to dive into the manual, since I didn't came across in the display.

I'll have to take my MS2 to my dealer. Could it be also something in the railbox or is this only some kind of switch?

The MS2 with version 1.81 or higher can update the software of the trackbox.

The radio interference suppressor 74046 for C track is available in Europe for more than 10 years. It is not related to the FCC thingies for use in the USA. It's required for analogue operation. but must not be used with digital layouts.
The mfx feedback is not very strong and can easily be disturbed. But a short piece of track with only one train on it is the best setup.

OK. Nice to know when I've updated my MS2, then I'll try also to update the trackbox. Does the "LDB" in my case "V009 (10/2)" refer to the software version of the trackbox?

OK. I've got all new C tracks (bought 2012 or later) and I'm using only digital. The MS2 is from a start set.

I've took some tracks and moved it into another room and tried it again, but no luck again. The only hope I've got is updating the MS2 this weekend. Keep you posted.

"LDB" is the locomotive data base.
Track box will probably have version 0.00 and can be updated to version 1.39.

When you go to the dealer, better take train, MS2 and railbox with you, maybe even a few track pieces.

Maybe your Thalys will register after another mfx loco registered successfully (a loco from the dealer). Maybe it will register after some rest (try again immediately before you take it to the dealer).

Just to be sure, you did put the whole train on the track with both contact shoes?

Aloha,

Elliott

Oops, just noticed that the Thalys has shared axles, so that the whole train would have had to be on the track...Sorry!

Hi Aluppens,

I'm sorry to be a wet blanket on this topic, however, I would suggest you read my loco review on this model.

https://www.marklin-user...aspx?g=posts&t=22286

I would be returning the loco before I return the MS2, as this is the worst train Marklin ever produced - IMHO.

Regards
Greg
Take it easy . . . . or any other way you can get it !!!!

Today I've updated the MS2 from 1.30 to 1.83 at the dealer with a CS2. After connecting the MS2 to the trackbox, the MS2 asked for an update of the trackbox. When that was done we did put the Thalys on the tracks and shortly after the MS2 started to blink MFX and the train was recognized. At home I've put the Thalys on the tracks and everything works BigGrin.
So the issue can be closed. Thanks everybody for your input, especially HO ThumpUp.
