Its a long time [19 years] since I've been able to get to Germany but got it sorted for a 3 night visit early Dec for some Xmas shopping which may need to include some Marklin...

Any tips on shops especially ones that do second hand...

If you're looking for second hand M* locos in Cologne, you should visit:
Modelleisenbahn-Center
Techn. Spielwaren Lindenberg
Blaubach 6-8
50676 Köln
But they're not cheap!

You can search shops here:
http://app.maerklin-partner.de/maerklin/mhp/
Click on "Händler-Suche", then "zur Umgebungssuche". Enter German town names, e. g. Düsseldorf or Köln.
There are six shops listed for Düsseldorf - but I haven't seen them yet.

For new stuff:
Modellparadies Köln
Aachener Str. 222
50931 Köln
http://www.modellparadies-koeln.de
Big MRR only shop (expect RRP).

"Spiel- und Hobby Karin Koeppen" is a toy shop with some MRR stuff.
"Lokstation Köln" is a smaller MRR only shop.

How about Bonn?
"Modellbahnland Bonn-Rhein-Sieg e.K., 53111 Bonn" have a large shop (and I think some second hand stuff).
"Puppenkönig Westenhöfer KG, 53111 Bonn" had a large MRR department when I was there last year (or was it the other year?). Don't remember if they had second hand items.

"Modellbahn Apitz, 42289 Wuppertal" is also a large shop with second hand locos.
There are other shops in Wuppertal - but I haven't seen them.

Please note: I don't know all shops between Bonn and Wuppertal ...
Shops not named here are not necessarily bad ...
Regards
Tom

I prefer Pils. Many brands of beer, and most are good.

Many thanks for all the advice.

I am rather looking forward to browsing in a shop with lots of stock, not done that for 1o years, that was Berlin [Micha's I recall].

Now to secure a bit of cash...

Just a brief report before pics, unpacking etc.

We [took the better half and youngest daughter 8, the older ones were with ex] and had a great time, the recommendation of Mezels Lok Shop was very well founded, I have never seen such an array of Marklin and other AC makes never mind all the rest..

I was bought my Xmas Pressy the Bamberger set [from another good shop that had it on offer at 170 eu], and got myself the lovely little 37140 and an array of secondhand and new coaches etc.

There were other shops I will report back later..

Aside frm that the place is an amazing experience at this time f year, Altbier, Gluwein and every conceivable hot snack and meal in the Xmas markets.

And even though in West Yorks I feel we have a reasonable public transit Rheinbahn..Trans/ U bahn, manged even a brief ICE from the Airport.

On the basis of the Go 2 flight and the hotels cats and the sheer ease of getting about with a very active 8 year old we'll be back.

Food were great too. Thanks also for reviving my faith in human nature, it was 11 years since I went on a civic exchange as a Councilor so got lost a bit, I was offered help and advice at each turn.

I am also looking to send out my unconverted locos, Menzels were very helpful , programmed the loco for me and were clearly 'fans'.

Cheers.

H,

well thatwas very satisfying.

This little loco is a real gem. have seen some doubts expressed about the quality of some of Marklin's recent models, but this one is a real gem.Smooth, no stalling and the metal detailing is simply pure Marklin. She pulls well and is facinating to watch, that motion is very good.

Gave her a good spin on the CellarBahn.

I have to wait according to my wife for the Bamberger set, but again that loco is solid metal.

My doubts were about worm or cardan shaft drives but no problems.

Düsseldorf was very good for the trains then.I found some good promions at Lutzeman on Graf Adolf Strasse, there is a pic of their display. As 2d Generation UK Marklin bod that sort of display was heaven. Menzels is 10 times that...

On the transport I was very impressed with the Rheinbahn operation, possibly the best public Transport system I have seen.

I have some pics of the trips to post, but i hte mean time the cellar is reinvigorated plans are back in my mind for a new level.

Wow, look at that. A shop window with Marklin in it...wow. Thanks for sharing the pictures.

Glad you had a good time. It sure is fun to see so many items for real, items that you only see in catalogs and web pages. What a treat. One day maybe....
