Pulling locos are (doubleheaded, with 28 cars) #37882 BR 043 903-4 with #37885 BR 043 131-2 and #37880 BR 44 534-6 (with 18 cars). #37885 is unchanged, but #37882 got "upgraded" to a c91 based decoder and telex. However, #37880 is the best after conversion to mfx-sound, telex and additional wheel lights; smoker anyways. So, with its extra wheel light (f8) it even beats the new Märklin BR44 and BR43 (#37883) functionality. biggrin

The loco was just in quite "heavy duty" during the last weekend at a meeting with other model railroad fans. wink

UserPostedImage

Some of the cars on my pics are actually (almost, but with different road numbers) the same as those of the new sets - #26536, #46255 and TRIX #24202 (see also my earlier posted pics in the "Märklin News" section).

Enjoy the pics and join me in desperately looking forward for the delivery of the new Märklin sets. [:p]

Hi Steven,

not yet - as you should be able to see from the loco's product numbers and epoche (IV) - but #26536 will as well arrive hopefully soon! [:p]

Great photos, thanks Lutz. Makes my BR41 pulling 4 Erz IIID hopper cars look rather puny. It looks like you have several different types of loads there - coal, ore and gravel.

Wow, what a coal train! Very impressive photos, and it's a perfect H0 garden layout weather here where I live, too... biggrin

BTW, how did you control the double header of the two BR 43/44's ? I suppose you did use the consist mode of the CS, isn't it ?

Consits for double heading locomotives.

No need with same coding address.I have set up the consist on CS to pick up BR50 (coding 50) and BR44 (coding 44) to make double heading from the locomotives list.

Don't forget make sure testing two locos have same acceleration and braking delay setting before double heading.

Hi,

the desperately awaited "Langer Heinrich" finally arrived at its target destination. Here some first impressions:

The set is nicely packed in a larger case and accompanied by a small flyer which shows both, the Märklin and TRIX complementing sets of locos and waggons.

UserPostedImage

The new loco matches closest the first newly constructed BR44, #37880. Besides the different epoche (III vs. IV), the sound and telex (to which I have retrofitted my 044 as well as wheel lights) the new model differs very visible from its predecessor by the darkened ("brünierte") steering parts and some revision dates on the red buffer plates (date is 7.12.64). The loco was assigned to the BD Münster and located at the BW Rheine.

UserPostedImage

UserPostedImage

UserPostedImage

The sound functions are the same as for the earlier BR44 with "big ears", #37889.

UserPostedImage

The lightly aged ore waggons have the following road numbers:

611886, 611890, 611899, 611918, 611925, 611940, 612420, 612435, 613111 and 613220. They are all different from the road numbers of the former (non-aged) TRIX set #23935 and #31356 ore waggons can also be seen within the above shown pictures.

As soon as the accompanying sets #46255 and TRIX #24202 are delivered, my locos will really have quite a bit to pull. Smile

And as an additional enjoyment here's a picture of the smoking chamber door of a real BR44, which I just pictured a few hours ago.

Hi Steven,

many thanks for your hint. I hadn't seen/realized that you had posted your pics already (which are IMHO much nicer than mine! wink). I also had in mind to show the difference between this new fine model and its predecessor.

Did you already recognize that AUX2 is still unused, which means that you could as well add wheel or cabin lights like I did with my #37880.[:p]

50 ore wagons and 2 loks, i.e, a 4000t train...

A more layout-feasible, but less glamourous is the 2000t version, with "just" 25 wagons and one lok...

Hello fans of the "Langer Heinrich".

Two days ago TRIX delivered their Profi-Club package 2/2007, as usual together with the TRIX Magazin.

It contains a very nice report about those 4000t ore trains between the German North Sea harbors (mainly Emden) and the steel factories in the so called "Ruhrgebiet" in the midwest of Germany. The report as well as the title page are illustrated with impressive pictures, mostly "Jumbo" double tractions with huge steam clouds and many, many ore waggons behind!

The report mentions a load of 800t resulting from 10 fully loaded waggons, which means a 4000t train pulled up to about 50 of those OOtz50 waggons.

So, you'll actually need to buy each 2x 26536, #46255 and TX #24202!!! [:p][:p][:p]

Some remarks on the ore load height (since there were also some debates in other forums):

The waggons were usually not fully loaded up to the top due to the weight limits. It is no problem to either lower or even remove the ore inlay of the waggons and replace it with (more) real ore as well.

You just simply need to pull off (carefully!) the four buffers which then allows to remove the two metal support platforms and to pull (again carefully!) the two parts of the waggon apart. Now take the inlay out, cut off its stands (also the middle one) and remount it again if you want to continue using it. Depending how well the two parts hold together after mounting, you can apply a bit of plastic glue to the part connection at the top. It might also be helpful, but is not required to remove the couplings and bogies during this minor improvement action.

Speaking of reports, this is from the 26536 "Langer Heinrich" listing in the Marklin Product Database:

“Lange Heinrich“ / “Long Henry“. Embedded in the Northwest German plains area is the Emsland area, a region rich in bodies of water and moors. At the start of the Seventies until the end of steam locomotive operation on the DB in October of 1977, it became the Mecca for railroad enthusiasts from all over the world. The last steam giants on the German Federal Railroad ran with passenger trains to Norddeich Mole, and heavy freight trains were in operation between Emden and the large industrial centers on the Rhine and Ruhr. The star on the Emsland line was the "Lange Heinrich" / "Long Henry", a 4,000 metric ton ore train between the Emden switch yard and Rheine, always with two of the last great freight locomotives from the classes 042, 043, and 044 as motive power. The high-capacity hopper cars were loaded with imported raw material in Emden's outer harbor and were hauled by steam and diesel locomotives to the switch yard and there were assembled into long unit trains of 2,000 and 4,000 metric tons. The power output of one of the powerful locomotives was just enough to bring the load for the 2,000 metric ton trains over the lightly ascending exit onto the mostly flat 140 km / 88 mile route to Rheine. The "Langer Heinrich" trains were twice as heavy and required the use of two locomotives, which got underway after a furious start, often with slipping wheels. The trains usually had oil-fired class 043 locomotives from the Emden and Rheine Districts as motive power. The classes 042 and 043 were often used in combination, occasionally two of the class 042, and quite rarely the last of the coal-fired class 044 helped along with the other two classes. The latter two classes were equipped for oil firing during an overhaul and had entered the motive power roster at Rheine in 1967. There were many locations along the route for taking impressive train photographs. A favorite among knowledgeable photographers was a bridge at Aschendorf, south of Papenburg. The trains could be photographed in almost their entire length on a curve leading to the right. Even more ideal and probably the best place in the Ems area was south of Lathen. There, the route ran between two sand dunes in a curve to the left and offered an unobstructed view of a complete 4,000 metric ton train under the best lighting conditions. A requirement was of course good weather, exact knowledge of the schedule for the trains, and being there early in the morning, when the sun was still low on the horizon. Long before the train entered this section of the route, a distance column of smoke and the unmistakable rhythm of the exhaust announced its approach. The waiting was then rewarded with an unforgettable view of the entire consist from the front of the locomotive to the end of the train consisting of fifty cars. (From drawings by Horst J. Obermayer).
