I would like to know the other makes of 3 rail Loks and Rolling stock that can be used. (I know that if I did a search I may find this out but not in one topic post).
What I would like to know, besides the Manufacturer, what modifications are needed to be carried out (if any) before running.
Are they are FX or MFX Compatible. Can be used with the MS or CS without too much setting up.
Any changes required to be made to rolling stock.

Please not too much critisism on comparative quality, a simple statement will do.
I am sure that this information will be useful to other members, who are new or returning to the hobby.
thanks,
Nev

Nev: Pico, Roco, Lilliput, and Fleischmann all make AC loks (Lilliput and Fleischmann only a few models though). Also, Heljan, Hobbytrade, and Togmodelle all make AC loks but mostly danish/scandinavian models. I will abstain from commenting on quality of specific makes, but it varies...

Ohh.. Precision Craft just announced an AC steamer (see topic elsewhere)

Nowadays they usually come with LokPilot or LokSound decoders so they're ready to roll...

Hi Neville,

The latest 3 rail models of HAG are equipped with an ESU decoder and suitable for both Märklin analog and digital.
The older AC models are in fact analog 3 railers and need modification for digital operation such as a permanent magnet for the motor and a decoder.
You might even be better off buying the DC equivalent of your favourite model and install a pickupshoe and a decoder(Sorry no hands on experience with that though[:I])

As for their rolling stock ,they carry both DC and AC versions of waggons and cars.

Hope this helps

Kind regards
Guus

I have a number of Brawa steam engines detail is beautiful but very delicate. They don't have the pulling power of Marklin, however they use a lot of plastic for minute details which if you have a lot of dexterity you can add to the detail of the engine.

If your using non marklin rolling stock just watch out if the marklin close couplers catch on the buffers. I use fleischmann profis as an alternative.
