Hello,

I got my Sets today from Eurolokshop. They are very nice models indeed. The Set 55034 corresponds to the segment of the train from Brig to Zuerich and back. The 55035 consists of three coaches which run from Brig to Geneva and back.
In Brig, the two segments are combined for the run to Milano and on to Rome.
If you are modelling the Italian segment, you would need both sets. If you are modelling one or the other Swiss segment, you can choose either set or both.

Here is the new ACME model on the left and the Roco model from a few years back on the right. The ACME coach is very nicely detailed, with coach number and very accurate destination signs in the coach windows. It also has a detailed reproduction of some of the stabilization equipment adjacent to the bogies. (Note: This part may have to be trimmed to allow operation on tighter radii.)
The ACME coach has reproductions of the couchette beds and the ladders used to climb up to the higher bunks. The Roco coach has the standard 2nd class interior for a Eurofima coach.
The Roco coach has a slightly darker blue. There are some differences in the dimensions of the WC window and other minor details that vary between the models. The ACME coach also has a reproduction of the compartment used by the coach attendant.

The SBB Couchette Coaches were also until recently also used in Nighttrains to Austria/Hungary and on Autotrains to Italy. These coaches have also been used for charter traffic as well.

The FS Sleepers are also very nice and look very nice with the SBB coaches as a consist behind a Re 4/4II or Re 460.

I would be interested in hearing other opinions regarding the comparison between the Roco and ACME models, including the bogies, the undercarriage and interior lighting.

I think that we can forgo the usual comments about these coaches not being able to handle R1. Those comments are understood and not needed here.

Regards

Mike C

Mike,
Looking at the photo you'v esupplied there is a noticable difference between the 2 coaches.
a.) door window (size)
b.) toilet window (size)
c.) step is far deeper
d.) hand rail missing
e.)slightly higher coach (Roco)
f.) Roco coach sharper image

Having noticed the "differences", only you could make a comment, which coach has the correct reproduction.

P.S. for goodness sake, use a soldering iron to solder your connection wires, lets have a certain standard ! biggrinbiggrinbiggrin

Nice foto Mike. ACME really seems to be the benchmark for detail here.
Just look at the windows, interior, puffers, doorsteps, pictograms its all there.
Only the door handle seems to be more detailed on the Roco.
In one word magnificent. One could look at it for hours.

What loco are you planning to use in front of it? SBB Re 4/4 iii or Fs E 656 maybe?

Hello,

I am going to take a few more photos of the ACME (and Roco) coaches.
I decided that the height difference may be partially due to the cable running underneath the track, lifting the track section under the Roco coach possibly just enough to make it seem higher.
The picture was taken at pretty much the shortest focal distance. I want to see if I can get both coaches in focus.

Evil R commented on the door handles. The ACME coach has the correct modified doors whereas the Roco model still has the original Eurofima doors.

I also wanted to point out that the ACME models have a reproduction of the self contained Toilet tank located under the doors.

@John, the photo was taken on a very temporary setup that I put on my desk to experiment with some consists. I powered the K and M Tracks just to test a few loks in digital (K) and analog (M) operation.

Here's a listing from eBay with some nice photos:

These photos provide a little more detail than mine.
Enjoy

As promised, here are some better photos of the ACME Set and my original EN "Luna" composed of ACME/Heris and Roco coaches.

UserPostedImage

The Top photo shows my original EN "Luna" made up of ACME/Heris 16004 and Roco 44976 coaches and the ACME 55034 (L) and Roco (R) SBB coaches next to each other.

UserPostedImage

The middle photos show more detail of the ACME and Roco SBB Couchette coaches. Note the intricacy of the details on the coach interior (beds) and underbody on the ACME coach (Top Right), notably the bogie details and the self contained waste tank, cleverly designed so that it does not interfere with the close coupling shaft. The Roco coach (Bottom Right) has the correctly upgraded bogies taken from the more modern SBB EC Coaches (like Roco 44470). Details of the bogies can be seen from the side in the second photo of the first set.

UserPostedImage

The last photos show the SBB and FS Coaches from the new ACME 55034 and 55035 Sets.

The instructions state that the coaches can handle minimum radii of 420mm. All coaches are 303mm (exact 1:87)
