Hi all
What is the max number of locos one can load onto a MS2? Never thought I would have to ask such a question, starting out with digital 4 years ago with only 3 locos.......Crying
This Marklin disease really is incurable isn't it......Scared
Thanks, Joe

Hi!

The answer is 42. No, sorry, that's a different question. Blushing

The answer is 40. Use two MS2s and the answer is still 40.
11 can be selected for positions at the bottom of the screen, allowing easy access. But the loco list can have up to 40 entries.

For MS2s with old firmware the answer is 10+1. IIRC you need 1.64 or higher to use 40 locos.
Regards
Tom

I think, the number is unlimited, when You use loco cards! When you put in a new loco card, it will be loaded into direct access store #11, but it will not be stored in the local loco memory when there are already 40 locos saved.

My MS2 has the old firmware, so I can only store 11 locos. With an inventory now running at 140 locos, I obviously have no hope of having all my locos stored in the controller.

What I do is that all locos not present on the layout get deleted, so that only the 4-8 that i can run are represented in memory. mfx locos will register themselves whenever I need them, and for the rest I either enter the catalogue number from the MS2 database, or use loco cards to store the details. Loco cards are mainly for locos that I've converted myself and non-Marklin locos.

Hi Joe,

In 1985 I had two locos, then I started building a collection. If you do the maths it's an average of about 5 locos a year. Many of those are cheap locos picked up on ebay.

Joe, you have no idea how virulent the "Marklin Bug" can be, in fact its a addiction......... hence changing my eBay name to marklin junkie.......... and there is only one cure. Death Crying

I only just realised it was ~5 years ago that I decided due to age related issues dealing with my "N" collection was not a viable option in the future. Also with the kids long gone I could finally afford the Marklin layout I had been dreaming about for the previous 40+ years. ThumpUp Woot

Fast forward 5 years and I've got 65 loco's, 11 train sets, 25 wagon sets, 110 rolling stock, nearly 1000 pieces of track and boxes (and boxes) of decoders/engine kits.Blushing

Thank the heavens for a understanding better half Love.

Just resign yourself Joe and go with the flow.ThumpUp

Sad when its cheaper to buy a new 29640 starter set from Germany than a CS2 on its own in Oz, welcome to the joys of Marklin down under .

Actually there is another "cure" as young Neville discovered late last year and that was to be sent to the Sunny Farm Nursing Home.. Scared
