I use chemical gasoline to clean the rail.
Very effective!

Thanks for your replies. I just have a small track cleaning brush. Is it enough if I clean the tracks only with a brush, or do I need some solvent?

If your track is already installed try running some loks on it. However if it is not installed, if it was me, clean it with a solvent as it is generally easier to clean them before and not after the fact - Fred

Use a piece of heavy duty cotton, like a piece of old denim or cotton lab coat, with some isopropyl alcohol or medicinal alcohol. Wipe a moistened spot along the rails and it will probably come away quite black.
