As newbie still trying to figure out digital I have a quick question. If I'm using a CS2 with the latest software and plan to use the mfx signals and digital turnouts is there a reason to buy the K83/84 decoders?

If the turnouts do not have the built-in decoders then you will need a k83 or m83 for four turnouts - cheaper than the decoders that go under the trackbed.

And after wiring them up they would be programmed the same way?

Yep. Some have DIP switches, some are programmable - you find both types with single decoders and quad decoders.
Makes no difference when you use them with a CS2 or other controllers.

Well, I love cost effective stuff. Any difference between Viessmann and Märklin?

Quad decoders?

Oh, would the K83 be driven off its own transformer? Ditto the turn out motor?

Decoders like k83 for four turnouts.

The new m83 60831 has some advanced and unique features.
If you only want to operate turnouts, then a k83 (6083 or 60830) will do that fine - just like Viessmann decoders or those from other brands. And Viessmann 52111 is rather affordable.

Power for turnouts comes from the decoder.
k83 can be modified to allow external power, m83 and third party decoders usually are prepared for it.
To get started you can operate turnouts from track power with all decoders.
